As an Associate Chief Underwriter, you will provide in-depth expertise and influence various stakeholders in strategic mandates and complex files that require extensive and profound technical competence related to their field of expertise. The successful incumbent will have strong underwriting expertise and be a resource for various levels of the company and external partners for all lines insurance. More specifically, you will be required to :

• Take on responsibility for projects, mandates, and development activities specific to underwriting development, the scale and impact of which are significant to the organization and could impact the Desjardins Group as a whole.
• Working with and under the direction of the Chief Underwriter, he / she will lead the development and amendment of underwriting policies, standards, models, and programs to support the company’s strategic projects and mandates. He / she will achieve this by applying the latest underwriting research, modeling techniques, as well as transformative and innovative technologies to continuously evolve underwriting guidelines and practices that are industry-leading and consistent with the company’s risk profile.
• Advise and support internal and external partners in the positioning, planning, development, fulfillment, and follow-up on various strategic underwriting mandates under his / her responsibility.
• Assist the Chief Underwriter in creating and implementing a system to monitor, understand and anticipate trends in underwriting, and make appropriate recommendations to ensure the continued development of underwriting best practices for all lines of insurance.
• Develop methods and indicators for monitoring the performance of underwriting guidelines and models. Identify problems and make recommendations for improvement to concerned authorities and decision-makers.
• Work together with the Chief Underwriter in representing the unit on various committees made up of senior executives and decision-making bodies.
• Provide technical underwriting expertise during the negotiation of agreements or discussion of industry-wide issues with various authorities of external businesses or organizations.
• Provide underwriting expertise and operations support to underwriters through special mandates and projects.
