Position Summary

Initiate process improvement strategies to meet production, S&R, and yield targets within a large-scale distillery. Provide analytical data to support new Capital projects and repairs including : mass balance, historical data trends, repair history, pump curves, etc.

Create and review standard operating procedures, lock-out placards, and training material. Project management. Commissioning oversight of new systems and overhauls.

Troubleshoot process upsets, and drive plans to improve. Committed to achieving excellence in quality, health and safety, the environment and food safety.

Key Responsibilities

  • OHSA - Ensure compliance of Occupational Health & Safety Act (section 25, 26, 27, and 28) per Hiram Walker & Son’s Ltd Policy- Management-Supervision-Worker Safety Responsibilities.
  • Work closely with the Manufacturing Manager to ensure that production equipment is available and in a properly maintained state in order to meet or exceed the requirements of the production schedule.
  • Daily involvement in the day to day operation of the plant (to attain production requirements).
  • Work closely the Maintenance department by maintaining communication in order to ensure accurate planning for both short and long term work
  • Ensure compliance with all plant safety rules. Work with contractors to make them aware of all requirements. Conduct safety meetings when required to do so.

This will be attained by maintaining vigilant enforcement of rules and conducting regular audits to ensure the Company meet all safety targets and initiatives.

  • Actively seek opportunities to improving equipment reliability and efficiency through the use of new or improved technologies (both process and maintenance) measured by an increase in reliability through production and energy efficiency data.
  • Assist with maintaining M&R budgets. Monitor expenditures, ensure that costs are allocated against correct accounts (attain budget targets).
  • Make sure all procedures are incorporated into maintenace activities where required. Ensure required documentation is in place and procedures are followed (no non-conformance issues).
  • Indirect supervision of contractors and skilled trades employees and direct / indirect supervision of Manafacturing Process Operators and Distillery General Help employees.
  • Work within ISO management systems (9001, 22000, 14001, and 18001)

  • External, regular, work related contact with outside suppliers, maintenance and production supplies.

Required Skills & Abilities

  • Chemical Engineering background preferred
  • Knowledge of all areas of maintenance (mechanical / pipe / electrical / instrumentation). Knowledge of process operations (process flow).
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety regulations.
  • Ability to plan complex tasks (project management, maintenance).
  • Effective influencing, partnering, team building and step change innovation skills.
  • Solid ability for big picture thinking.
  • 5-10 years equivalent experience in plant operations

Education

  • Required : College / University Diploma, Chemical Engineering or other related field
  • Preferred : Bachelor’s degree, Chemical Engineering
