Responsibilities
What your day will look like
Field Activities
- Complete field activities in accordance with established health and safety protocols.
- Coordinate and complete fieldwork for contaminated sites projects, including Phase I, II & III Environmental Site Assessments, hydrogeological investigations, and remediation programs.
Tasks to include site inspections, soil / groundwater / surface water / sediment / soil vapour sampling, hydraulic conductivity testing, and subcontractor supervision during drilling and test pit investigations and remedial excavation programs.
- Direction of on-site remediation activities associated with addressing impacted soils, sediment, and water.
- Supervision and observation of construction activities including coordination of daily work activities for a small crew of local contractors.
- Coordinate and complete designated hazardous substance surveys including asbestos and lead sampling and assist in air emissions testing programs.
- Complete documentation of field activities, site health and safety meetings, and chain of custody forms.
- Operate, calibrate, and maintain project specific field equipment.
Project Coordination
- Coordinate with laboratories, clients, subcontractors, and third-party stakeholders.
- Assist in preparation of technical memos, letters, reports, spreadsheets and figures including data tables and borehole / test pit logs.
- Assist project managers, engineers, environmental scientists and others on a variety of multidisciplinary design teams.

Qualifications
What you will need to succeed
- A diploma in environmental or civil engineering technology, degree in environmental sciences, degree in engineering, or a related environmental field.
- More than 3 years of experience in environmental consulting or related industrial experience.
- Strong work ethic with genuine interest in environmental consulting and field work.
- Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office . Excel and Word.
- Exceptional problem solving and critical thinking skills.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Willingness to work remotely in the field for up to two weeks.
- Ability to work overtime when required.
- Ability to work alone in the field with guided direction or partial supervision
Experience
Experience in any of the following would be considered an asset :
- Phased Environmental Site Assessment and remediation and / or hazardous building material surveys.
- Soil and groundwater sampling.
- Experience in construction monitoring and construction quality assurance for verifying remediation objectives have been achieved will be an asset.
- Experience in the tendering and procurement of remediation services will be an asset.
- Experience in hazardous building substances survey will be an asset.
- Experience in training internal staff on field programs will be an asset.
- Knowledge in several of : geology, hydrogeology, environmental sampling procedures, environmental chemistry, site characterization, waste management, remediation, and health and safety.
- Knowledge of relevant provincial, and federal environmental legislation and policies.
- Proficiency in ESdat, Surfer, gINT, AutoCAD, or GIS.
Training : The successful candidate may be asked to mobilize to Northern Manitoba for a two-week duration to be trained on drilling and groundwater monitoring projects.
