The Pacific National Exhibition is an iconic institution in BC, famous for bringing generations of people together to celebrate and build memories. This 113-year-old, non-profit organization has an annual operating budget of over $70 million dollars and generates revenue through four activity streams: the 15-day annual summer Fair and winter Fair which average more than 700,000 people annually, Playland amusement park which welcomes 400,000 guests annually including Fright Nights, and a busy year-round portfolio of events including concerts, trade shows and film, cultural and community events. In total we bring over 2 million people through the site each year. The fourth activity stream is park care and facility maintenance. We are seeking a mechanically apt and hard-working individual that has a passion for the Games Attractions industry and the Pacific National Exhibition (PNE). The Technician, Games & Animatronics of the Playland Facilities & Maintenance department, will work under the direction of the Manager, Playland Facilities & Maintenance and provide support to the Playland Tech team in Playland. They will operate vehicles and tools/equipment in compliance with all health and safety requirements as determined by WorkSafeBC, and all other applicable legislation and company policies. WHMIS, Lock Out, Zoom Boom, and Fall Arrest training will be provided on an as needed basis.

What will you do this year?

In your role as a Technician, Games & Animatronics , your primary accountabilities will be to:

  • Perform routine and preventative maintenance on games and attractions as required.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot games, Fright Nights and park animatronics.
  • Assist with setup and tear down of games and attractions. This includes assisting with assembly and disassembly, working in conjunction with both the Playland maintenance and PNE set design teams.
  • Ensure audio equipment including wireless mics and PA systems are operating properly.
  • Operate mobile equipment (forklifts, scissor lifts, zoom booms) in a safe and responsible manner.
  • Maintain and document technical specifications and information relating to games and attractions maintenance and repairs.
  • Develop and organize written records including manuals and other documents.
  • Maintain and organize an inventory of games and attractions supplies, parts and tools.

What else?

  • Must have successful completion of Grade 12 or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must have a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License and provide an up-to-date Driver's Abstract confirming a clean driving record.
  • Must have 1-2 years of general electronics experience.
  • Previous experience maintaining and repairing a variety of Electro-Mechanical devices is required.
  • Post-secondary education or training in electronics is preferred.
  • Ability to troubleshoot problems quickly and effectively.
  • Basic shop skills such as carpentry, metal work, mechanics, and electronics is preferred.
  • Ability to interact and receive instruction from others in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision.
  • Must be available to work weekdays and weekends on varied shifts.
  • Forklift license is considered an asset
  • Ability to work at heights (up to 250 feet) is considered an asset
  • Must be capable of lifting heavy equipment on own or with a partner
  • Must be physically able to work in awkward positions
  • Occupational First Aid Level II considered an asset
  • Successful candidates must undergo a Criminal Record Check.
