As British Columbia’s flagship convention centre, we host more than 500 events each year and welcomes hundreds of thousands of global attendees to premier conferences, trade shows, banquets and more.

The Vancouver Convention Centre is seeking a strong communicator to be the new Manager, Event Technical Services . Reporting to the Director, Events, the Manager, Event Technical Services is a dynamic people leader tasked with developing and engaging our in-house Event Technical Services (ETS) team, and making the venue a great place to work for all employees.

This leader will continue to build a great culture and positive working environment for a team that is present in our venue 7 days / week and during all event hours.

The professionals on our ETS team are critical to the success of our events, responsible for the safe delivery of temporary event electrical and plumbing services that is necessary for almost all of our events.

The Manager is an adept collaborator who will work alongside with other leaders in ensuring that all required services are delivered safely and beyond expectation.

The Manager is a clear communicator, who is able to develop meaningful connections with a wide variety of customers and staff.

WHAT YOU WILL DO :

  • Lead and continue to develop a cohesive ETS team, working hard to build a culture of trust, safety, and accountability.
  • Maintain a constant connection with the members of the ETS team, getting ahead of issues and challenges.
  • Manage employees including hiring, training, development and delivering feedback.
  • Ensure all employees have the tools, resources, safety gear, uniforms, etc. to complete their jobs in a safe and professional manner.
  • Work collaboratively to identify educational needs of the team and assist in developing formal training programs, including enhancing certifications and industry-leading safety training.
  • Understand and communicate the event electrical requirements to ensure appropriate staffing scheduled, resources, equipment and consumables.
  • Works collaboratively with Sales, Catering and Client Services to analyze the operational challenges between event bookings, highlighting interdepartmental awareness, and providing guidance in order to adjust required resources for success expanding event bookings where necessary.
  • Support the creation of comprehensive complex event electrical plans that are executed utilizing available resources within event deadlines
  • Develop relationships with counterparts in other venues to support understanding of event / electrical requirements, in addition to capturing relevant market information needed to recommend competitive pricing.
  • Proactively identify business improvements including simplifying / automating processes, sustainability and / or potential new revenue streams.
  • Work collaboratively with ETS and the Facilities team to determine equipment and infrastructure upgrades and repairs, as well as purchase requirements, and support the request capital expenditures as needed.
  • Resolve any client, exhibitor orders, and / or service complaints or issues

WHAT YOU WILL BRING :

  • Ideally, the successful candidate may have the Full Entertainment (FE) Certification with Field Safety Representative Certification or Journey-person Red Seal Inter-Provincial Electrical Certification in the event or entertainment industry experience, with Field Safety Representative Certification.
  • We are seeking a strong leader with excellent communication skills, who thrives in a dynamic environment needing to collaboratively find creative solutions.
  • Previous management experience with a proven ability to motivate and engage with employees
  • Previous trade experience in the electrical field is an asset
  • Experience in the event industry, venue logistics, operations, build outs and procedures across multiple departments and buildings is preferred.
  • Good working knowledge of a wide variety of standard software applications including Microsoft Office, and Autocad. Momentus (EBMS) software experience is an asset,
  • Sound knowledge of temporary electrical and plumbing installations.
  • Demonstrable experience with large scale production events, with a focus on event logistics
  • Leadership experience with a proven ability to motivate and engage with employees.
  • Demonstrated exceptional communication skills, whether explaining, offering feedback, handling conflict, or sharing a vision.

You are able to communicate a clear, simple, and detailed message.

  • You hold yourself and your team accountable to service excellence through establishing high standards, measuring performance and implementing initiatives of continuous improvement.
  • You will be able to handle a high-pressure environment that requires fast-paced decision making and strict timelines.

The salary range for this position is $ 77,968-97,460 .

  • Offers will be in line with PavCo’s internal pay equity and qualified candidate’s experience and education.
