UFCW 1518 is one of British Columbia's oldest and largest unions, with a proud progressive history of more than 100 years of making life better for working British Columbians.
UFCW 1518’s roots can be traced back to 1899 when a group of retail clerks in Vancouver met to discuss how they could improve their working conditions.
Since then, UFCW 1518 has established a track record of winning key battles for its members. Today, the union represents workers in a diverse range of industries, including community health, industrial, and professional services.
Grocery and retail are the main sectors represented by UFCW 1518. As an affiliate member of UFCW Canada and UFCW International, UFCW 1518 is part of a movement of 1.3 million members.
The organization is now seeking a Senior Director of Communications who will help lead the charge for fairness, overseeing all communications activities, ranging from member updates to media messaging, and playing a key role in advancing the union's mission, expanding its reach, and growing its membership.
Reporting directly to the Managing Director, Member Engagement & Growth, the Senior Director, Communications will support scalable operations, ensuring swift and impactful communication with members, prospective members, and stakeholders.
As the ideal candidate you will bring significant communications leadership experience in a unionized environment with a proven track record of successful campaign and event management.
Candidates will have extensive writing and editing experience across print, social media, and online communications and campaigns.
Political acumen and enhanced proficiency in utilizing modern communication tools will be considered an asset in order to mobilize union members, non-unionized workers and the public.
