Responsibilities
The Venture Program is a community‑based short‑term, recovery‑focused assessment and treatment program that provides an alternative to psychiatric hospitalization for adults 19 years or older. It offers a safe and supportive environment where clients receive mental health care, develop coping strategies, and build skills to manage their illness effectively. We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate psychiatrist to join our multidisciplinary team.
The psychiatrist will conduct comprehensive psychiatric assessments, provide diagnostic clarification, and develop individualized treatment plans for clients with acute needs. Responsibilities include medication review and initiation, risk assessment, brief therapeutic interventions, and close collaboration with nursing and allied health staff to support rapid stabilization.
Additionally, the psychiatrist must work collaboratively with clients and families, and liaise with community mental health teams, family physicians, and hospital staff. Ideal candidates will demonstrate strong clinical judgment, excellent communication skills, and the ability to function effectively in a fast‑paced setting.
Qualifications
Experience in acute psychiatry, refractory disorders, trauma‑informed care, culturally safe care, substance use disorders, and crisis intervention are highly recommended. A clinical faculty appointment at the University of British Columbia is recommended, as supervision of medical students and psychiatry residents is expected.
