Job Description

The Assistant Surveyor is responsible for the management of all field site-specific surveying activities using legal control points provided by a registered surveyor. This person must be able to communicate effectively with the project manager and the Superintendent to stay abreast of all changes and requirements. The assistant surveyor is responsible for providing laying and elevations so that all construction activity can be properly built within the desired locations.

• Verify the accuracy of survey data, including measurements and calculations conducted at survey sites.
• Able to work with total station equipment (Leica or Trimble), laser levels, and GPS systems.
• Record the results of surveys, including the shape, contour, location, elevation, and dimensions of land or land features.
• Calculate heights, depths, relative positions, and other characteristics of terrain.
• Prepare or supervise preparation of all data, charts, plots, maps, records, and documents related to surveys.
• Plan and conduct ground layout designed to establish baselines, elevations, and other geodetic measurements.
• Coordinate findings with the work of engineering and architectural personnel, clients, and others concerned with projects.
• Locate fixed points for use in creating maps, using geodetic and GPS for site requirements using control points provided by registered surveyors.
• Analyze survey objectives and specifications in order to prepare survey proposals or to direct others in survey proposal preparation.
• Able to coordinate with the BIM department to develop a live model which includes As-builts.
