Millwright Apprentice
JOB OVERVIEW
A Millwright Apprentice / General Labourer is responsible for working with heavy machinery to ensure they are installed and maintained properly.
Going to customers facilities and upholding the company’s image / brand in a respectable and professional demeanor. As a Millwright Apprentice / General Labourer you are a key point in assisting the team, learning, and developing skills to proceed towards writing the C of Q Millwright exam.
It is crucial that our Millwright Apprentice / General Labourer promote a positive company image through safety, quality, consistency, and professionalism.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Read and understand the Employee Manual
Follow all safety rules
Wear Personal Protection (Hard hats, steel toed boots, safety glasses, harnesses, etc.
Use proper / safe procedures when operating any equipment in the shop or on the job site.
Do not operate equipment for which you are not licensed
Fill out time sheets properly, request assistance from foreman if needed.
Ability to work weekends and overtime as required
Ability to work out of town and out of Province
Maintaining Road Crew Vehicle
The road crew vehicle is the millwright’s access to tools and equipment, as well as transportation to and from job sites.
The van must be organized and clean. The following tasks must be performed by the Millwright Apprentice / General Labour employee :
Maintain stock in vans (welding rods, grinding / cutting disks, nuts / bolts, silicone, oxygen / acetylene, etc.)
Vans must be kept clean and free of garbage
Maintain organization of tools and equipment (secure on shelving)
Cables, ropes, cords, hung properly
Welder, oxygen / acetylene tanks secured
Pre-departure Preparation
Every morning before departure for the job site there are duties to perform. The Millwright Apprentice / General Labour employee must perform these duties :
Check stock in road crew vehicle
Load any small parts needed for the job site into the van
Assist foremen, lead hands in loading the trailer
Perform any tasks assigned to you by the foreman
Job Site Responsibilities
On the job site the Millwright Apprentice / General Labour employee has several key responsibilities.
Keep job site clean / organized
Follow foreman instruction, perform tasks assigned to you
Perform cutting, grinding, welding duties
Painting duties
Aid Foreman / lead hands in rigging equipment
Assembly of equipment
Learning Responsibilities
Learning new skills is essential to a rewarding millwright career. The Millwright Apprentice / General Labour employee is in the beginning stage.
Advance Millwrights requires that these employees focus on learning and improving skills in the following areas :
Measuring tools
Proper operation of power tools
Cutting and proper operation of torches
Welding in preparation for CWB testing (flat, horizontal, vertical, overhead)
Layout (spouting, hole patterns, etc.)
Proper assembly and installation (bearings, motors, gear boxes, pulleys, equipment)
Miscellaneous
Always conduct oneself in a professional manner in alignment with Company values, including but not limited to language use, attire, and workmanship
In accordance with Company policy and relevant employment legislation, overtime and work outside of regular hours, and being on call may be required at the discretion of the company
All other duties as assigned

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS
Currently pursing Millwright License or aspiring to.
Millwright experience / schooling considered a strong asset
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
Follow all safety rules
