Your new role

We are currently seeking a Health and Safety Lead - Studies to join our client’s operations in Sudbury, ON. This is a contract opportunity, and the incumbent will be working Monday to Friday 40 hours per week.

The primary role of the incumbent will be to provide technical support and training to staff to coordinate the development and implementation of the Project’s Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Management System and to provide advice and assistance to enable the Integrated Owner’s team to achieve zero harm at the construction site.

The incumbent will be responsible to assist with the development and implementation of a number of programs and plans prior to and during construction andmissioning.

The successful candidate will work closely with the integrated team and contractors, to ensure they understand and follow the applicable legislative requirements.

They will also monitor that all parties areplying with the HSE requirements of the Project, by auditing performance vs. the HSE Plan forpliance, and effectiveness of risk management programs, policies and procedures in the field.

  • Assist the Project team and stakeholders with interpretation of Vale HSE Management Systems and rules; assist inmunication with Third Parties Supporting studies.
  • Field visits to site to ensurepliance to Regulations, Vale standards as applicable, and the Project HSE program.
  • Coordinate the field implementation and management of the specific NAPG HSE Execution Plan for Construction andmissioning, including related projectmitments.
  • Conduct field assurance audits for key risk controls to assess effectiveness.
  • Conduct audits of the risk management activities of contractors.
  • Coaching of individuals in the project within the principles and values of the Project
  • Regular interaction and advice to project personnel and workplace sites
  • Participation and / or review of event analysis as assigned, for appropriate and timely responses
  • Participation in review of accuracy of project KPIs for HSE
  • Monitor the Projects MOL Correspondence and track project responses. Flag concerns with content or timelines to PM team
  • Review Health programs of the integrated team legislation forpliance, as well as follow-up to workplace concerns
  • Updating and modification of HSE related documents and tools for stakeholders as required
  • Audit project team and contractorpliance and readiness on emergency preparedness (training, knowledge and drills)
  • In conjunction with project management and / or project contractors, coordinate thorough analysis of all incidents and actively participate in High Potential event analysis using ICAM model of analysis
  • Conduct unscheduled and scheduled inspections of work areas in conjunction with project management contractors and employees as appropriate

What you'll need to succeed

  • Minimum level of education required by the position : Relevant 2-3 year College Diploma
  • Preferred Certification : CRSP or Equivalent and PMP
  • Minimum years of experience required to perform this position : 7-10
  • Other knowledge, skills, abilities and behaviours needed to perform this position :
  • Knowledge of Projects and Studies (FEL1,2,3,Execution), Construction and Mining experience an asset
  • Knowledge of Project Delivery Systems (SPE), Vale Production System, Health and Safety Management System, OHSA and Regulations
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision and achieve targets with tight adherence to deadlines
  • Strongputer skills (SharePoint, Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.)
  • Experience working in a diverse culture and the ability to facilitate effectively.
  • Strong presentation, oral and writtenmunication skills and the ability to facilitate effectively
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and interpersonal skills
  • Strongmunication skills both oral and written.
  • Solid working knowledge of OH&S Act and Regulations, Mining and / or Construction
  • Self-motivated, and be an active team member to ensure team goals are achieved.
