Overview
Our client, a growing manufacturing organization is seeking a Senior Cost Accountant to take ownership of cost accounting, inventory control, and production costing across multiple manufacturing cost centers. This role plays a key part in ensuring accurate production data within the ERP system and providing meaningful cost and margin insights to support operational efficiency and profitability.
Working closely with engineering, operations, and finance, this individual will be hands-on in managing production orders, monitoring work-in-progress, analyzing variances, and strengthening overall costing discipline across the business.
Key Responsibilities
Production Planning and Setup
- Set up and maintain production orders within the ERP system.
- Maintain and update bills of materials and material master data as required.
- Prepare purchasing documentation aligned with engineering specifications and project needs.
- Partner with engineering and operations to ensure planned production aligns with available inventory and capacity.
Manufacturing and Cost Control
Review material usage against BOMs and investigate variances or inconsistencies.Record and validate scrap, rework, and internal production charges.Work closely with manufacturing teams to improve costing accuracy and process compliance.Troubleshoot and resolve production or costing issues in a timely manner.Month End and Reporting
Close production orders and ensure accuracy of final costs in ERP.Analyze item-level cost variances, margins, and cost of goods sold.Prepare COGS accruals and related journal entries as part of month-end close.Inventory and Costing Oversight
Monitor open WIP and ensure production orders are closed on a timely basis.Prepare and reconcile SR&ED related consumption and scrap entries.Lead the development and maintenance of absorption costing methodologies.Perform inventory reconciliations and support monthly close activities.Prepare margin analysis by product and customer invoice.Lead physical inventory counts, reconciliations, and adjustments.Support external audits and special finance projects as needed.Qualifications and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related business discipline.Strong understanding of inventory management, production costing, and variance analysis.High level of accuracy and attention to detail.Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.Advanced Excel skills and comfort working with large data sets.Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings is considered an asset.Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across operations, engineering, and finance.#J-18808-Ljbffr
