The Advanced Technical Skills Simulation Lab (ATSSL) in the Cumming School of Medicine is currently seeking a Full-time Temporary Relief Simulation Technician Aid for approximately 1 year.
This position reports to the Manager, ATSSL and works under the guidance of Administrator, Technicians, Coordinator and Consultants.
The Advanced Technical Skills Simulation Lab (ATSSL) is a Royal College Accredited Simulation Centre at the University of Calgary's, Cumming School of Medicine.
The ATSSL provides simulation-based medical education using a variety of modalities including high-fidelity simulators, task trainers, and human and animal cadaveric tissue. The lab supports undergraduate and postgraduate learners, medical specialists, nurses, and allied health professionals in a safe and controlled training environment.
This position supports day-to-day simulation operations by preparing lab spaces and materials, maintaining cleanliness and organization, and assisting with session setup and teardown. The work requires attention to detail, adherence to infection control and safety procedures, and the ability to handle sensitive materials respectfully.
The role involves exposure to human and animal cadaveric materials, chemicals, and unpleasant odours, as well as moderate physical activity, including lifting 32 kg (70 lbs). Work may include occasional evening or weekend shifts depending on simulation schedules.
The Simulation Technician Aid works collaboratively as part of a team but can perform tasks independently with minimal supervision once trained.
