Practice Lead (For the Bookkeeping / CFO Firm)
The Practice Lead (PL) is a delivery and people‑leadership role at Transcounts. You’ll manage 15–25 small business clients, owning their accounting operations end‑to‑end with a strong focus on accuracy, compliance, and customer experience. This role owns 100% of client communication (under‑24‑hour email response from day one). You’ll start with new client onboarding, then manage a 3–4 member remote bookkeeping team, while owning quality, timelines, reporting, and the client tech stack.
As you scale to 20+ clients and a 3+ member team, you can progress into the Practice Manager or Fractional Controller track. eCommerce experience is strongly preferred.
Key Responsibilities
Onboarding
- Own onboarding, including tech‑stack setup and historical data review.
- Plan and execute catch‑up bookkeeping (6 months–3 years). Convert onboarding clients into clean, repeatable monthly workflows.
- Maintain real‑time communication and weekly progress updates.
Delivery & Quality
Deliver accurate monthly bookkeeping, AP / AR, sales tax filings, and reporting.Perform full quality reviews and ensure zero‑miss compliance (GST / PST / HST).Handle reconciliations (bank, credit card, loans, inventory & COGS). Prepare year‑end financials and tax accountant packages.Lead quality oversight across your client portfolio. Guide and support bookkeepers; resolve delivery issues early.Maintain ClickUp documentation and async updates. Own SOPs and quality checklists for assigned clients.Participate in reporting QA, KPI reviews, and process improvements.Customer Experience
Improve documentation flow, banking access, and communication.Ensure reporting is accurate, clear, and insight‑driven.Communicate professionally, concisely, and empathetically.You may move into Practice Manager or Fractional Controller once you demonstrate :Ownership of 20+ clients and a 3+ person teamStrong technical mastery and consistent deliveryHigh client retention and zero compliance issuesCRA / IRS audit support capabilityAbility to interpret financials and deliver insights2 weeks vacation + 5 sick / personal daysStat holidaysHSA up to $1,500 / yearHybrid work (1–2 days WFH) after 1 yearMust‑Haves (Deal Breakers)
