Job Overview :
As the point of contact between the estimating department and upper management, the Estimator will oversee the quality and productivity of the estimating department, manage budgets and project proposals through the given construction estimating team. The estimator reports to the Construction Manager and plays a vital role in ensuring a successful inception of each construction project. The role demands a high level of attention to detail and organizational skills to provide clear information to the project team and owners groups. Additionally, the estimator must possess excellent communication and negotiation skills when performing subtrade tendering and presenting budgets to ownership groups. Deep knowledge of the major construction processes is essential to aid in construction mythologies and initial scheduling as well as defining subtrade scopes of work.
Key Responsibilities
- Review preconstruction progress with project teams on a regular basis and provide guidance to achieve overall successful.
- Review project budgets regularly with upper management to confirm proper expensing and deferring of risk away from Company.
- Communicate project progress to the Construction Manager.
- Evaluate workflow with upper management and provide input on new project opportunities.
- Explore new leads as required based on workflow reviews and resource demand.
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive work schedule for the estimating staff.
- Attend and as required lead AOC design meetings to ensure budgets are maintained and the construction agenda is signified.
- Develop and maintain estimating department standards of operating procedures and tendering documents.
- Perform frequent reviews of Procore tendering folders to ensure proper protocol is being followed through the tendering process
- Assemble instructions to bidders and scopes of work prior to issuing for completeness and proper transfer of contractual obligations
- Meetings with key subtrades in the interview process and ensuring proper recommendations are being passed on to ownership.
- At end of project, take part in overall project reviews and implement any needed changes to preconstruction to ensure a positive evolving process.
- Serve as the primary point of contact and liaison between project estimating and construction manager.
