POSITION : Secondary Occasional TeacherLOCATION : DSBN Secondary Schools in Niagara RegionRATE OF PAY : $245.77 daily rate of pay (includes 4% vacation pay)SCHEDULE : 10 months per year (September June) on an as needed basis Position Summary : The DSBN is seeking qualified, and soon-to-be qualified, Secondary Occasional Teacher candidates who provide evidence of meaningful experiences working with children and / or youth.

These experiences may include paid, volunteer, and practicum experience. Occasional Teachers work in a variety of schools throughout the Niagara region gaining valuable teaching experience and supporting the needs of students across the system.

Occasional Teachers are eligible to work daily assignments, apply to long term assignments or contract positions with the DSBN.

  • Conditions of Employment : Maintain good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers; Upon hire, provide a Criminal Background Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening (dated within six months);
  • Agreement to comply with the Board’s policies, procedures and code of conduct; Successful completion of a probationary period in accordance with the Collective Agreement;
  • Work a minimum of 15 teaching days in an academic school year; Complete an annual offence declaration process. Application Process : All applications are accepted through ApplyToEducation;
  • Applications packages should include : Covering Letter Resume Practice Teaching Reports or most recent Teacher Performance Appraisal Reference Letters Selection Process : Preference will be given to the following applicants : Applicants who possess both Intermediate and Senior Qualifications in two subject areas Applicants who possess the following qualifications Arts Dance, Drama, Music, Visual Math Technology Business Studies Accounting, Marketing, Economics, Law English as a Second Language French as a Second Language Science Chemistry, Biology, Physics Applicants who have lived experience working with a variety of diverse backgrounds Interview Process : Interviews will occur virtually via Microsoft Teams with a panel of Secondary Principals / Vice-Principals;

Traditional question and answer format interviews will occur Application Information : NOTE : all offers of employment made to successful applicants are conditional until such time as OCT qualifications and Criminal Background Check with vulnerable sector screening have been verified.
