Overview
As a member of the military, Combat Engineers ensure that troops can live, move, and fight on the battlefield. They perform construction and maintenance tasks, operate vehicles and equipment in support of engineer operations, and maintain field installations and facilities.

Combat Engineers experience unique adventures and challenges in the field. Qualified Combat Engineers may apply for Combat Diver Training. Depending on the force (Regular or Reserve), postings and relocations vary, with Reserve members serving part-time at local units and having the option to volunteer for deployments.
Entry Requirements
Training
The initial training is the Basic Military Qualification course at the Canadian Forces Leadership and Recruit School in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec. This is followed by driver training in Borden, Ontario, and 20 weeks of military engineering training at Gagetown, New Brunswick, covering construction of defenses, roads, bridges, radio communications, and explosive handling. Advanced and specialized training options are available, including courses in combat diving, explosives disposal, and heavy equipment operation.
Part-Time Options
This role is available part-time through the Primary Reserve at various locations across Canada. Reserve members serve part-time, usually evenings and weekends, and may volunteer for full-time positions or deployments. They receive pay and benefits comparable to the Regular Force, with opportunities for career development.
