JOB SUMMARY
Create, manage, and oversee all aspects of the camper experience at Gull Lake Centre with the assistance of the full-time program team. This role sets the direction, tone, and goals for the summer camp, seasonal programs, and leadership development initiatives such as the LTD, FED, and summer staff programs. The Program Director casts vision, hires and disciples’ staff, designs curriculum, and ensures that all programming reflects the mission of Gull Lake Centre.
JOB DUTIES
Camper Programming
- Create residential camping programs for children and youth.
- Oversee all programming and ensure that it meets the Gull Lake Centre standard of excellence in safety, enjoyment, relationship development, and spiritual connection. This includes summer, fall, winter, and spring camps, and leadership programs including LTD and summer staff.
- Oversee and give guidance to all activities, taking responsibility for risk management and camper experience.
- Develop a metric to measure success and to review, evaluate, and improve the camper experience.
- Ensure that all Gull Lake Centre programs fall within GLC, and / or Alberta Camping Association, and / or municipal / provincial standards and regulations.
- Bring in speakers to help enhance our programming as approved by the Executive Director.
- Set and guide the spiritual vision for all GLC programs.
- Oversee the summer FED program.
Percentage of Time : 40%
Leadership Development
Hire, train and equip all summer staff and volunteers. This includes running our staff training program.Train, equip and manage all LTD student participants which includes applications, interviews, and LTD training week.Create, implement, manage, and refine programs to develop leaders.Manage the entirety of the LTD program including curriculum, out trips, and year round development.Set spiritual and developmental goals for LTD and Staff programs.Create long term development goals for GLC programs.Percentage of Time : 30%
Administration
Promote and fill all camp programs.Manage the program budget.Work with Maintenance and Executive Director to anticipate future expenses, repairs, replacements or purchases for the camp program.Understand and follow Gull Lake Centre Policies and Procedures.Prepare an annual report to the board after each summer.Develop and maintain all staff and LTD training materials, applications, manuals, etc.Help the GLC team fulfill seasonal requirements as they occur.Research and write grant proposals to support program growth and innovation.Percentage of Time : 20%
Other
Manage the other full-time program team members day to day.Manage other duties as assigned such as international camping.Percentage of Time : 10%

3-5 years of camp, ministry, or similar programmatic experience is an asset.Strong leadership, strategic thinking, and organizational skills.Excellent communicator.Experience in hiring, developing and mentoring young leaders.Able to implement day to day as well as the big picture.Ability to create and write program curriculum and content.Experience with waterfront equipment is an asset.Requirements
Must live on or very near campus during summer seasons and offseason camps.Flexible with work hours, especially during summer months.Must have a valid driver’s license.Criminal record check and venerable sector screening required.COMPENSATION
