Job Overview

Working under limited supervision, the Senior Risk Services Consultant contributes to Wawanesa’s goal of delivering meaningful loss prevention advice to Members, while gathering and reporting detailed field-level information on insured buildings, hazards and operations.

This is an outbound, Member-facing role, regular field and overnight travel is required. The Risk Services field team contributes to Wawanesa’s goal of assisting Members in preventing and minimizing insurable losses.

Job Responsibilities

  • As assigned, arrange and conduct onsite risk assessment consultations with Wawanesa Members (policyholders) and prospects in accordance with Risk Services Team Guidelines, while maintaining expected performance standards
  • Complete detailed reporting within the LC360 Inspection Management Platform. Reports will clearly articulate the onsite common and special hazards and controls observed, while offering useful recommendations to assist in the prevention of insurable loss.

Proficiency in the platform and attention to detail are required

  • Measure buildings and complete accurate replacement cost estimates on company supported insurance to value appraisal platforms
  • Complete fire mapping diagrams and detailed floor plan sketches utilizing company supported software when necessary
  • As a Level 1 thermographer, conduct infrared surveys and analyze findings as part of the risk consultation process
  • Work with your Supervisor, Underwriters, Brokers and Members to support completed field surveys
  • Stay current with the latest risk services / prevention techniques and trends through courses, seminars and industry associations
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in risk services / loss control / prevention or related field
  • Post-secondary education and / or industry-specific experience in loss control, engineering technology (fire protection, mechanical, electrical etc.

trades, safety management, property management or building inspections, insurance, risk management, occupational / industrial safety and health

  • Strong knowledge of building construction types and materials, common and special hazards and fire protection systems
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate and present at the right level for the audience
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to conduct detailed analysis of information, and to select and implement best solutions in a timely manner
  • Strong planning and organizational skills
  • Ability and willingness to travel, with working conditions that may include exposure to outdoor weather, environmental hazards, noise, dust, chemicals, animals / livestock, working alone, etc.
  • Level I Infrared Thermography certification from a recognized training facility is preferred; Level II certification is considered an asset
  • Completion of CIP, CRM or equivalent Property and Casualty industry designation is considered an asset
