Description :
We are looking for an HSE Specialist to support the application of HSE systems and processes across the AmEMEA IS&T portfolio.
The AmEMEA region covers a diversity of Rio Tinto mine and processing facilities, operating within the Aluminum, Coper, Iron Ore and Minerals business units.
You will work closely with IS&T teams and key stakeholders and assist HSE leaders and teams to implement Rio Tinto HSE processes and work towards achieving our IS&T HSE vision.
Based in Montreal you will work mainly with stakeholders who are situated in Madagascar, South Africa, Serbia, Iceland, four Canadian provinces / territories and in three states in the USA, with the possibility of covering smaller teams in other European and South American countries.
Job Responsibilities :
- Reporting to the HSE BP IS&T and working collaboratively with site / office teams, this role is responsible for, but not limited to :
- Supporting IST teams to implement aspects of safety procedures, management, and monitoring
- Implementation, analysis and monitor progress of the Safety Maturity Model (SMM) and improvement action plans
- Embed and provide training and coaching to teams on Critical Risk Management (CRM) & reporting / analysis on CRM data
- Identify simplification and replication opportunities (adopt and adapt best practice)
- Liaise with relevant key hub and site stakeholders to build relationships / alignment to ensure optimal HSE performance and culture
- Assist in delivering the HSE targets as aligned to the IS&T HSE Plan in SMM, CRM, Contractor management & mental health & wellbeing.
Job Requirements :
- Qualified in health & safety relevant and / or commensurate experience in a similar role
- At least 5 years of relevant HSE experience in operational environment
- Experience in engaging stakeholders in development and engagement of successful HSE strategies
- Experience in change management and influencing of stakeholders to reach HSE objectives
- Continuous improvement mindset.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, positive outgoing attitude, ability to work in a multicultural and multilingual environment with great team spirit.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including verbal and written fluency in both English and French.
- Experience working in an operational health and safety role is desirable.
