Overview
Our client is seeking a dedicated and experienced counsellor or social worker with specific addiction experience to join their team.
This position is vital for fostering relationships with clients facing addiction issues.
Details : The role offers a flexible schedule, with options for both full-time and part-time work.
- Compensation : Pay rate starting at : $44.00 per hour
- Duration : Initial Duration : 6 months, potential for extension.
- Work Schedule :
- Minimum Commitment : 15-20 hours per week
- Flexible Hours : Schedule is adaptable, including weekends and evenings
- Working Hours : Sessions can be conducted as early as 8 AM and as late as 9 PM PST (can work in your own time zone)
- Criminal Background Check : Required for all candidates, including a basic Canadian check and an enhanced judicial check (approx. cost $30 CAD)
- References : Two professional references are required to support your application.
- Location : 100% remote in Canada

- Professional Background : Experience in facilitation, social work, or counseling, particularly in the context of addiction or mental health support.
- Personality Traits : Ability to manage difficult conversations with a firm yet compassionate approach, helping clients get back on track.
- Independent Worker : Must be organized and capable of self-managing tasks effectively, including scheduling and client follow-ups.
Key Responsibilities
Client Screenings : Conduct thorough 1 : 1 screening for individuals with underlying addiction issues, typically lasting 45 minutes to 1 hour.
Ensure that clients feel comfortable throughout the process.
Conduct Workshop (future opportunity to support) : Workshops cover essential topics related to impaired driving and substance abuse, as guided by the Program Management Office.
Key areas include understanding legal issues and penalties for impaired driving, effects of alcohol and drugs on driving skills, and the physical, psychological, and social consequences of substance abuse.
Participants learn about blood alcohol concentration, myths around substance use, and recommended safe timelines for cannabis use before driving.
The workshop also emphasizes self-monitoring, identifying high-risk situations, and developing strategies to prevent impaired driving.
Relapse prevention, goal setting, and connections to health services and support groups are integral parts of the program, along with practical strategy exercises.
- Follow-Up Sessions : Manage follow-up appointments, typically lasting about 30 minutes, to track client progress and address any ongoing concerns.
- Client Interaction : Proactively communicate with clients, booking appointments and discussing workshop dates, requirements, and expectations.
Training and Support
- Reimbursement : Training reimbursement available for up to 25 hours of material review, allowing you to gain necessary knowledge at your own pace while billing for the time spent.
- Preparation : Review training materials provided to ensure readiness for client interactions and workshops.
Requirements
- Experience : Minimum of 2 years in a relevant field, particularly with client interaction in addiction support or mental health.
- Technical Skills : Proficient in using video conferencing tools like Zoom or Teams for screenings and workshops.
- Equipment : Successful candidates will be required to use their own laptop / PC for the duration of the contract.
- Interpersonal Skills : Strong ability to engage with clients, especially those exhibiting challenging behaviors. Must demonstrate empathy and professionalism.
