Job Summary

An opportunity to utilize your expert analytical and problem management skills

The Climate Action Secretariat (CAS), as a division of the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Strategy, is responsible for leading and coordinating research, analysis, development and implementation of programs, strategies, policies, and legislation, that enable the mitigation of, and adaptation to, climate change, while supporting competitiveness and the development of a sustainable economy.

The Economics and Analysis team is central to the development of BC climate strategies with specific responsibility for the analysis of policy and program options and tracking BC's greenhouse gas emissions.

The team identifies and advises on the social, economic, or other issues and trends in the realm of climate change and climate science relevant to government and stakeholders;

and leads research and analysis of climate change policies and projects using economics, statistics, greenhouse gas accounting, technology, interdisciplinary approaches and other analytical tools, as appropriate.

Job Requirements :

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in economics, mathematics, international relations, engineering, business administration, public administration, or a related fieldand 2 years related experience; OR
  • Diploma in economics, mathematics, international relations, engineering, business administration, public administration, or a related field and 3 years related experience; OR
  • Certificate or coursework in economics, mathematics, international relations, engineering, business administration, public administration, or a related field and 4 years related experience; OR
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Related experience must include :

  • Experience with the analysis of datasets.
  • Experience with how energy and greenhouse gas emissions are calculated and accounted for.

Preference may be given to applicants with any of the following :

  • Experience with the science of climate change.
  • Experience with the interplay of the environment and the economy and sustainable development.
  • Master's degree in economics, mathematics, international relations, engineering, business administration, public administration or a related field.
  • More years of relevant experience.
