Responsibilities
What your day will look like
Field Work and Project Coordination
- Coordinate and complete field programs for contaminated sites projects, including Phase I, II & III Environmental Site Assessments, hydrogeological investigations, soil / groundwater / surface water / sediment / soil vapour sampling programs, and contaminated site remediation projects.
- Complete documentation of field activities, site health and safety meetings, among others in paper and digital formats (as required).
- Coordination with laboratories, clients, subcontractors, third-party stakeholders.
- Compilation and analysis of data.
- Assistance in report writing and preparation of technical memos, letters, reports spreadsheets and figures, proposals.
- Assistance in supporting environmental assessment reports, including : data tables, borehole logs, test pit logs, GIS / CAD, etc..
- Assistance with project managers and other team members, including geoscientists, biologists, engineers, planners, and environmental scientists.
- Coordination and management of project tasks, budgets and schedules.
- Compliance with applicable health and safety procedures and guidelines.
- Ability to work remotely for weeks at a time.
- Ability to work overtime when required.
- Ability to work alone in the field with guided direction or partial supervision.
Qualifications
What you will need to succeed
- Working towards an Environmental / Civil Engineering degree / diploma, a degree in environmental sciences, or a related environmental field.
- Valid driver’s licence.
- Strong desire to learn.
- Strong work ethic with genuine interest in environmental programs and field work.
- Comfortable with use and operation of a 4X4 truck in an off-road environment.
- Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Experience
- Knowledge in several of the following : geology, hydrogeology, field procedures, basic chemistry, contracting / construction, chemistry, geotechnical concerns, geology, hydrogeology, remediation engineering, site characterization, waste management, landfill design, health and safety will be considered an asset.
- Ability to work 12 hour shifts outdoors in a wilderness environment in various types of weather.
- Experience working around heavy equipment, including drill rigs and excavators;
- Experience with operating 4X4 trucks and driving long distances.
- Ability to occasionally lift up to 50lbs.
- Ability to travel by boat long distances.
- Ability to lead and direct a small crew of contractors.
- Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication, and organizational skills.
- Exceptional problem solving and critical thinking skills.
- Demonstrated abilities to work in a multidisciplinary team and independently.
- Knowledge of relevant provincial, and federal environmental legislation and policies will be considered an asset.
- Experience in AUTOCAD, GIS, Surfer, GINT or database abilities will be an asset.
