Information Officer and Lead Information Officer

Requisition ID : 78498 – Ministry : Forestry and Parks – Location : Grand Prairie, Peace River, Saskatoon Island Provincial Park, Young’s Point Provincial Park, Moonshine Lake Provincial Park, Historic Dunvegan Provincial Park – Full-Time – 40 hours per week – Temporary (Seasonal Hiring) – Classification : Administrative Support 2 (AS2) / Administrative Support 3 (AS3) – Salary : $23.28–$29.46 per hour – Closing Date : Open until suitable candidate found.

Role Responsibilities

  • Provide exceptional customer service as the first point of contact for day users and overnight campers, greeting and welcoming visitors in a friendly, approachable, and professional manner.
  • Use SHOP.AlbertaParks.ca and ASPIRA software to educate the public on the Alberta Parks Reservation System and register campers, update visitor information, enter self‑registration data, and process payments or refunds.
  • Participate in all required visitor service operations, which may include camper compliance, retail services, group unit counts, and public information sharing.
  • Operate cash register and point of sale machine with proficiency in ASPIRA software, ensuring floats and cash outs are accurate and balanced.
  • Perform retail sales of product and services, including firewood, concession items, ice, ice cream, and rentals (where applicable).
  • Manage inventory control, restocking merchandise, general tidiness, and reporting low‑stock items to the supervisor.
  • Support the Park Ranger program by providing accurate and timely key information to the public and collecting and reporting visitor usage and interaction statistics.
  • Travel by foot or off‑highway vehicle to rove campgrounds and day‑use areas to communicate and engage with a wide range of park users.
  • Coordinate day‑to‑day tasks of the IO team, ensuring daily procedures are followed.
  • Provide ongoing support to IOs through regular check‑ins, one‑on‑one training, and seasonal performance reviews.
  • Review and reconcile revenue, ensuring accurate data entry and creating bank deposits.
  • Assist with inventory ordering for booth and store supplies, ensuring availability during peak campground times.
  • Maintain knowledge of relevant recreational and tourist opportunities to respond to in‑person and telephone / email requests for information regarding facilities, public safety, and travel opportunities.
  • Support the distribution of information‑based communications such as posters, brochures, and program advertisements throughout the park.

Qualifications and Experience

  • High school diploma (minimum).
  • Preferred experience with point‑of‑sale machines, retail, cash handling, and / or customer service.
  • Related experience may be considered on a one‑year‑equivalent basis.
  • For Lead Information Officer : one year of supervisory or leadership experience and customer service experience.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly communicate with the public.
  • Available to work weekend, evening, and holiday shifts during the season.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, and Publisher).
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR Level "C" / AED Certificate.
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 driver’s license or equivalent.
  • Valid Driver's Abstract and Defensive Driving certificate.
  • Criminal Record Check.
  • Valid Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) certificate.
  • Experience with Campbelladians operations, campground etiquette, and surrounding park amenities is an asset.
  • Experience with SHOP.AlbertaParks.ca and / or AspiraOne is an asset.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Independent problem‑solving and adaptability.
  • Terms of Employment

  • Seasonal contract (anticipated May 2026 start and early September 2026 end).
  • Position requires 40‑hour work week, including evenings, weekends, and holidays throughout the summer as required.
  • Access to reliable transportation to and from the place of work is required.
  • Adherence to Alberta Parks Uniform Policy.
  • Selected candidates will need to provide three work‑related references including their most recent supervisor.
  • Training will be provided to successful candidates.
  • Positions may require outdoor work in a variety of weather conditions.
  • Shared rental staff housing may be available, dependent on park location.
