Work Schedule : 3 hours per week (during program hours - weekday evenings and / or Saturday mornings), effective between the months of September to June

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Support students during classroom activities through a variety of instructional strategies that best meet students’ needs
  • Promote positive attitudes and encourage enthusiasm for language learning
  • Provide each student with appropriate and positive feedback that builds confidence and strength
  • Develop and maintain an equitable and inclusive learning environment
  • Communicate with the classroom instructor about students’ progress and concerns (the instructor will follow up with parents / guardians and site administrators)
  • Ensure the safety of students both inside and outside the classroom for the duration of the program
  • Establish safe dismissal procedures in consultation with the classroom instructor
  • Assist students, volunteers, and instructors to restore the room to its original state at the end of the class
  • Ensure that students do not touch the belongings of day school students, teachers, and classrooms
  • Complete other duties as assigned

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS :

Candidate selection will be based on the results of an interview, experience and assets / qualifications and reference checks.

Preference will be given to candidates who have some of the following assets and / or experiences :

  • Fluency in various languages;
  • Some teaching experience (preferably language teaching);
  • Experience working with children;
  • Related education (degree or diploma, etc.).

    Important Information for CUPE 1734 Members :

    LA.11.7 Those twelve (12) month employees filling vacancies as a result of their applying to a job posting are to remain twelve (12) months at their position. Ten (10) month employees are to remain in their position until the end of the school year. This requirement can be waived with permission from the Superintendent responsible for Human Resource Services. This does not prevent employees from applying for a position or from applying for a promotion during the twelve (12) month period.

    Additional Information - Community and International Education Services (CIES) :

    The Community and International Education Services (CIES) hiring protocol allows teachers to teach and / or administrate for two CIES sessions per school year and / or administrate one term / session at a time. Candidates will only be allowed to teach and / or administrate a third session on an emergency basis in consideration of demand in a particular subject area, course or administrative position. A session is defined as the time needed to deliver a 4 – 6 week program (approximately 110 hours for credit courses) or the equivalent. CIES sessions include positions at e-Learning, Night School, Summer School, International Languages Secondary Credit and Elementary Non-Credit Programs and Summer Institute.

    As a condition of employment , an d in accordance with the Education Act, anyone seeking employment or wanting to volunteer must provide a satisfactory police record check. A Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) must be completed by the police services in the jurisdiction in which you reside, this is based on your home address (only accepted by police services within Canada); must be satisfactory to the YRDSB and completed within six (6) months prior to the scheduled start date. It is the candidates responsibility to provide the results to the Board upon instruction.
