Stopping the Violence Outreach Worker

Job Summary :

Supporting adults identifying as female and their dependent children who have experienced or are at risk of intimate partner abuse, threats, or violence. The current position is for 25hrs / week.

Reports to : Clinical Supervisor

Key Duties and Responsibilities :

Provide supportive brief interventions individually or in groups for clients who have experienced violence, abuse, or threats.

Provide follow-up and support for family law cases.

Provide educational opportunities, resource materials and referrals to clients who have experienced violence.

Connect persons with existing services and resources that will promote safety and independence.

Facilitate client (individual or group) training in violence prevention, problem-solving, communication, risk reduction and safety planning.

Provide legal and resource information, crisis intervention, support and accompaniment to lawyers, MCFD where applicable, appointments and Family Court.

Maintain current knowledge of issues and resources related to abuse and violence.

Conduct culturally appropriate presentations and public awareness activities about services and issues.

Assist clients with transportation and related activities.

Maintain related records and statistics and produces reports as required.

Education, Training and Experience :

Bachelors degree in a related discipline or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Strong assessment, crisis intervention, and communication skills.

Experience in the helping professions is essential.

Job Skills and Abilities :

Crisis intervention.

Awareness and analysis of oppression.

Excellent oral, written and computer skills.

Sensitive and responsive to cultural and gender differences in the client population.

Conviction of the capacity of people to change and grow.

Ability to develop a mutually respectful partnership with persons served.

Well-developed knowledge of community resources.

Proven ability to work cooperatively with service providers in the community.
