Why this role?

Modeling Product Management at Cohere

The role of a modelling PM at Cohere is unique. You will be working to define some of the highest impact products ever built in close partnerships with many of the best ML and AI researchers in the world.

You will therefore need exceptional product and technical skills.

You will make full use of your product experience and insight to understand the paradigm shift that enterprises are going through and how new use cases and ways of working are emerging as a result of the technologies Cohere is working on.

You will combine this with your deep technical understanding of what the technology is capable of, as well as its limitations, to define the product strategy for your area.

You will also work down in the detail alongside your ML colleagues, understanding what’s easy and what’s hard, and the technical and organizational challenges that need to be overcome to get things done.

The boundary between product and technical work is often blurred. You will need the confidence and trust of the MLEs to make priority decisions and drive the strategy which connects their work to customer outcomes and commercial impact for Cohere.

The Data role

Data is the lifeblood of the modeling team. It powers everything our models learn, what they get better at and how they are evaluated.

In this role you will be working with stakeholders all over the company to understand what data is needed to improve the capabilities of our models.

You will be working across all the tools and teams involved in data creation and curation. You will be pioneering how model driven annotation, synthetic data creation and human annotators can be combined to create high quality data at enormous scale for both training and evaluation.

This is a high-impact role which is fundamental forCohere’s success, therefore, we're open to considering candidates at Staff and Senior Staff levels.

Team and Company Impact

You will need a scrappy, startup mentality and thrive in an environment of collaborative and creative chaos.

You will have a proven ability to bring meaning and strategy which helps point the way forward.

Cohere is still a small organization. The breadth of your role will be enormous and the potential for impact almost unlimited.

In order to be successful in this role, you have :

  • At least 5 years of product management experience, understanding customer needs, and launching successful products.
  • At least 2 years product management experience guiding the work of research-inspired teams building AI models and / or related products.
  • A strong technical background and understanding from working hands on with NLP, LLMs or other AI technologies, either as an MLE, a data scientist, or as part of a postgraduate degree or research program.
  • Bonus Bachelor’s or postgrad degree in CS, ML or related field, or a background in machine learning, algorithms, large scale systems, and statistics
  • Bonus Experience with data annotation, internal tooling, large scaling training and evaluation infrastructure for ML.

If some of the above doesn’t line up perfectly with your experience, we still encourage you to apply! If you consider yourself a thoughtful worker, a lifelong learner, and a kind and playful team member, Cohere is the place for you.

We value and celebrate diversity and strive to create an inclusive work environment for all. We welcome applicants of all kinds and are committed to providing an equal opportunity process.

Cohere provides accessibility accommodations during the recruitment process. Should you require any accommodation, please let us know and we will work with you to meet your needs.
