Job Summary

The Specialist, Labour Relations (LR) and Human Resources (HR) Compliance,is responsible forcoordinating activities, especially data reporting and metrics, and supporting projects and recurring programs within the Compliance team, while also providing support to the larger LR team.

The role supports day-to-day operations and ensuresHR Compliance and LR processes are properly documented. Moreover, the incumbent coordinates essential tasks that ensure CN is compliant with collective agreements and employment legislation in Canada and handles confidential information related to grievances and complaints.

The role liaises with Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS) and Information and Technology (I&T) acting as an LR systems superuser ensuring users have training and access to the systems.

Main Responsibilities

Day-to-Day Activities

Prepare and distribute reports to meet Compliance requirements and LR business needs, enabling end users to run their own reports where possible

Track complaints, issues and legal cases that implicate HR and LR, pulling reports and analyzes data for trends

Support the harassment complaints resolution process, especially communications with workplace committees

Update and circulate a briefing document highlighting the potential or actual impact of legislative changes

Provideon-boarding and first-level support to users of LR systems, referring requests and incidents to HRIS and I&T or vendors when appropriate and works with HRIS, I&T or vendor to resolve them

Draft presentations and other communications at the request of the Compliance team and LR leadership

Special Projects

Develop new processes to improve team efficiency and effectiveness

Explore new ways to share and present data to support compliance and LR business needs

Collaborate with HRIS, I&T and liaises with the LR team to realize a smooth transition to new LR software systems and processes

Working Conditions

The role has standard working conditions in an office environment with a regular workweek from Monday to Friday. Due to the nature of the role, the incumbent must be able to meet tight deadlines, handle pressure and incumbent must be available to work evenings and weekends when necessary.

The role requires minimal travel (5%).

Requirements

Experience

Compliance

Minimum 2 years of experience in an office setting

Experience in interpreting and applying collective agreements and relevant federal employment legislation

Experience in building strong and positive relationships with stakeholders

Education / Certification / Designation

Bachelor’sDegree in Human Resources, Industrial Relations, or related discipline

Technical Skills / Knowledge

Strong understanding of the fields of HR and LR

Knowledge of Canadian federal employment legislation

General knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word)

Broad knowledge of CN’s network*

Understanding of or ability to learn Grievance Tracking System (GTS), Performance Assessment Process (PAP), Systems, Applications and Products (SAP), ServiceNow, SharePoint*
