Manager, Continuing Dental Education, College of Dentistry
Primary Purpose
The Manager, Continuing Dental Education (CDE) leads and manages all aspects of the College’s continuing education portfolio in dentistry. This role develops the annual CE program, recruits speakers, secures sponsorships, organizes lectures and hands-on courses, ensures accreditation compliance, engages external stakeholders, and supports the financial sustainability and growth of CE activities.
The position must work independently and in collaboration with College leaders, communication officers, and development officers.
Nature of Work
This Phase 2 professional position requires autonomy, advanced judgment, and the ability to coordinate complex CE activities. The Manager works closely with academic directors, faculty, clinic leadership, communication officers, development officers, administrative staff, and industry partners.
The work includes planning, event management, sponsorship development, budgeting, stakeholder engagement, and marketing. Some evening or weekend work may be required based on CE activities.
Key Responsibilities
Program Planning & Development
- Develop an annual CE strategy aligned with College priorities
- Design a balanced CE calendar including lectures, workshops, hands-on sessions, and online offerings
- Identify emerging topics and professional development needs in dentistry
Speaker Recruitment
- Recruit high-quality local, national, and international speakers
- Manage speaker contracts, travel, accommodations, honoraria, and presentation requirements
- Maintain a speaker/expert database
Sponsorship & Partnership Development
- Engage and secure sponsorships from industry partners and dental suppliers
- Develop sponsorship packages and ensure sponsor visibility during CE activities
- Coordinate closely with the College’s development officer to align sponsorship strategies
Course & Event Coordination
- Lead the full organization of CE activities, including logistics, registration, equipment, materials, catering, and onsite support
- Coordinate hands-on courses ensuring safety, clinical standards, and operational readiness
- Ensure participants receive clear communication and high-quality support throughout events
Accreditation & Compliance
- Ensure CE courses meet professional accreditation requirements
- Maintain documentation for regulatory and licensing bodies
- Issue certificates and track attendance and CE credits
Marketing & Communications
- Collaborate with the College’s communications officer to promote CE offerings
- Develop promotional materials, online content, and marketing campaigns
- Expand outreach to dental professionals locally, nationally, and internationally
Financial Management
- Prepare budgets, set course fees, and ensure financial sustainability of CE offerings
- Manage revenue, expenses, sponsorship funds, and financial reconciliation
- Provide financial and participation reports to the Dean
Stakeholder Collaboration
- Work independently and collaboratively with College leaders, communication officers, and development officers
- Coordinate with academic directors, faculty, clinic operations, procurement, IT, and administrative staff
- Maintain strong partnerships with provincial and national dental organizations
Other Duties
- Support College-wide events involving CE components
- Assist the Dean with strategic or emerging CE initiatives
- Perform additional responsibilities as needed to advance the CE portfolio
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree required (education, business, communications, health administration, or related)
- Additional training in event management, marketing, or project management is an asset
Experience
- 3–5 years of experience in continuing education, event management, or professional development
- Experience in dentistry, health care, or academic environments is preferred
- Demonstrated success organizing events, recruiting speakers, and managing sponsorships
- Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively
