Position Summary
BCIT’s School of Construction and the Environment is seeking a temporary, full-time (1.0 FTE) BCGEU Faculty, Boilermaker to teach in our Boilermaker program .
Boilermaking includes tank erection, boiler house upgrades and heavy industrial rigging. BCIT is one of Canada’s largest post-secondary institutes, with more than 45,000 students enrolled in certificate, diploma, apprenticeship and degree programs.
Responsibilities include : instruction to apprentice or entry-level students; preparing and presenting classroom lectures;
practical demonstrations; developing and updating curriculum; and working collectively with our Steel Trades Department Head.
Duties & Responsibilities DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Face to face classroom instruction to apprentice or entry-level students;
- Preparing and presenting classroom lessons including lecture and facilitating individual and group work;
- Face to face practical demonstrations;
- Evaluating student work and evaluating quality of program curriculum and instruction;
- Maintaining a safe work environment for staff and students;
- Working collaboratively with other Faculty members for development and delivery of programs;
- Working collectively with our Steel Trades Department Head.
Qualifications QUALIFICATIONS :
- BC Trades Qualification with Inter-provincial Red Seal Status in Boilermaking
- Minimum of five years’ current experience as a journeyperson
- Previous supervisory or teaching experience would be an asset
- Demonstrated skills and abilities necessary to instruct the curriculum
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills
- Provincial Instructor Diploma (or willingness to achieve such) an asset
- Welding ticket would be an asset
- Current computer literacy including MS Word, Excel, and Outlook
