The Job Summary :

Reporting to the Manager of OrganizationalDevelopment and Learning (OD+L) and in collaboration with OD+L colleagues,leadership, committees, and departments, the Clinical Learning and DevelopmentSpecialist supports the ongoing learning and development of the SJHCG communityby assessing needs, creating and delivering / providing opportunities that alignwith organizational and department goals.

The Clinical Learning and DevelopmentSpecialist serves as a role model and leader of professional behaviour, creatinga positive culture of learning by supporting ongoing staff development andfostering empowerment through knowledge.

This position will facilitate and leadthe planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of learningopportunities designed to enhance clinical proficiency, influence qualityimprovement, and promote leadership and teamwork skills.

As a practice andlearning expert, the Clinical Learning and Development Specialist designs,develops, and facilitates continuous learning through education, coaching andmentoring grounded in adult education principles that promote innovativelearning environments both in-person and virtually.

Key Accountabilities &Success Criteria :

  • Advances professional practice through integration and evaluationof professional standards through leadership, learning, and development, andassisting staff in the integration of research into practice.
  • Participates in and supports the implementation of evidence-basedpractice and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Utilizing adult learning theory to develop, design, and deliverinterdisciplinary education including orientation of staff and students forspecialized knowledge, skill development, and continuing education.
  • Adapts a change management stance in all work, ensuringinitiatives and programming is well-communicated, well-supported and relevantpartners are included throughout the process.
  • Collaborates with managers and directorsto support staff performance and competency, developing tailored learninginterventions to address clinical practice concerns, employee engagement andorganizational culture.
  • Facilitates the training and developmentof clinical staff (train the trainer) and offers support, in providing feedbackand coaching to new staff when necessary.
  • Coordinates the Learning ManagementSystem (LMS), maintaining employee education records, generating reports,creating interactive learning modules, liaising with vendors, and providinguser support in conjunction with the Digital Health and Information TechnologyDepartment, as required.
  • Leads the community of practice for the LMS to include administrators,educators, and reports to managers within the organization, including sharingbest practices for creating and maintaining modules focused on optimizing theuser’s learning experience.
  • Responsible for working with OD+L team members, LMS administrators,and key stakeholders to plan, maintain and communicate LMS annual training.
  • Coaches and mentors staff identifying and meeting their individuallearning needs and pathways, acting as a valuable resource throughout theprocess.
  • Supports ad hoc administrative duties ofthe OD+L department as required.
  • Leads skills-development projects thatcontribute to enhancing the professional practice to build and maintaincompetency within teams.
  • Administers the development,maintenance, and revision of educational resources, ensuring alignment withresearch-based practice, policies, and procedures.
  • Acts as a content expert for the review of clinical policies andprocedures.
  • Supports organizational rollout of clinical equipment bysupporting product evaluation, and development of clinical equipment educationand training programs.
  • Acts as a consultant to the OD+L Team, offering expertise onpractice issues and functioning as a role model, resource, and change agent.
  • Provides support in developing program and initiatives thatenhance employee engagement organizational culture, including equity, diversity,and inclusion (EDI) and resilience initiatives, with a focus on connecting withclinical staff.
  • Leads the skill gap assessment, design, development, delivery, andongoing improvements of OD+L services.
  • Demonstrates enthusiasm and commitmentto one’s own personal and professional development, staying aware of emergingtrends, professional practices, legislation, and theories.
  • Serves as a champion of the SJHCG mission, vision, and values,actively promoting a culture of learning that leads to safety, experience, andengagement across the organization.

Fosters a positive organizational culturethat values diversity and inclusion.

Qualifications :

  • A current Certificate of Competence fromthe College of Nurses.
  • A Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursingrequired; additional degrees in a related field (adult education, organizationalpsychology and / or development, etc.) considered an asset.
  • Experience in the application of adulteducation principles.
  • Minimum five (5) years of clinical experience with a focus oncomplex continuing care, rehab or long-term care preferred;

combined with aminimum of two (2) years experience in education.

Skills & Abilities

  • Demonstrated ability to successfully investigate,develop, plan, and deliver evidence-based learning.
  • Familiarity with a learning management system orother learning software.
  • Understanding and experience using frameworks forinstructional design.
  • Demonstrated technology literacy, includingMicrosoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Edge, Up to Date, Excelsior,and virtual conferencing systems (e.

g. Microsoft Teams, Zoom). Microsoft Excelknowledge is an asset.

  • Skilled in communicating ideas across a varietyof platforms and mediums (verbal, email, presentation) with a demonstratedcomfort facilitating learning to groups of various sizes.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver user-focusedprogramming and ability to maintain excellent customer / department relations.
  • Strong organizational skills to support theeffective prioritization and management of multiple requests and tasks.
  • Ability to coach, mentor, provide feedback andresolve conflict while fostering a positive organizational culture.
  • Willingness to liaise between clinical staff andstakeholders, when evaluating skills-gap and providing feedback.
  • Ability to meet deadlines when workingindependently and as part of a team.
  • Gentle Persuasive Approaches (GPA) certificationor GPA coach certification is preferred; additional facilitation certificationsconsidered an asset.
  • Willingness to work and travel to all SJHCG sites.
