Catholic Social Services is currently seeking a full time, 40 hours per week, Program Coordinator in Edmonton to join our dynamic and talented team. Catholic Social Services is looking for someone who is confident, motivated, non-judgmental, and can provide excellent person-centered care, while supporting vulnerable people in your community.

This position has a weekly schedule of Monday - Friday (8 : 00AM to 4 : 30PM), some weekends and evenings may be required.

Program Overview :

The CSS Care-a-Van is a mobile outreach program that provides services to homeless individuals who are situated in the outer-city areas of Edmonton. We focus on actively building relationships with homeless individuals, providing them with basic physical necessities, such as food, water and clothing, as well as connecting them with services in obtaining ID, housing, treatment, and other services.

At Catholic Social Services, our Care-a-Van team walks alongside individuals experiencing homelessness, building trust through a relationship-based approach. We stay connected for as long as it takes to link people with vital services—helping them take the next step toward a meaningful, healthy quality of life that honors their God-given dignity.

Job Summary :

As a Program Coordinator , you will be responsible for building and fostering relationships, providing basic physical necessities, addressing vital services people need referrals for, and assisting the homeless population in working towards a safe and stable quality of life. Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to :

  • Operating the Care-a-Van with another staff member present and driving throughout Edmonton’s outer-city zones to identify individuals who maybe homeless or “living rough”.
  • Providing snacks, drinks, lunches, and seasonal attire (jackets, gloves, boots, scarves etc.) as needed to individuals you encounter.
  • Use a relationship-based approach to interact and build continuous and trusting relationships with outer-city community members who are homeless and “sleeping rough.”
  • Working collaboratively with community BEAT police, and the community to assist homeless individuals who may need to be transported to a safe place.
  • Performing crisis intervention supporting clients to access crisis supports during emergency situations when necessary.
  • Make appropriate referrals to housing, health, and community services, and provide advocacy support for individuals.
  • Documenting interactions and tracking the services provided in our client management system
  • Follow up and coordinate with community service providers to ensure individuals are referred to appropriate supports.
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with program partners and other community agencies that would benefit individuals we serve.
  • Assist with fundraising for the Care-a-Van
  • Submitting required program documentation within established timeframes
  • Attending all team meetings.
  • Other duties as required.

What This Job Requires :

  • A Diploma / Degree in Human Services (or equivalent).
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience working within community-based services serving individuals with histories of homelessness, complex mental health issues, addictions and trauma
  • An understanding of poverty-related issues involving homelessness and additional awareness of Indigenous population.
  • The ability to work independently in the community and effective case management are requirements of this position.
  • Certification or training in Indigenous Awareness, Abuse Awareness, Standard First Aid, and Violence / Crisis Intervention is a definite asset.
  • The ideal candidate will have an organized and compassionate approach to the work, strong teamwork skills, a commitment to developing positive supporting relationships.
  • Other qualifications and experience include :

  • Ability to think critically and be ethically conscious of the CSS mandate and values
  • Ability to maintain a calm demeanor in stressful situations
  • Ability to be outgoing, and quickly build meaningful relationships
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable
  • Ability to work with an enthusiastic, and driven mindset
  • Possess excellent planning and organization skills.
  • Possess a good knowledge of community resources
  • Competent with Microsoft Office and other Agency computer applications
  • Demonstrated ability to act with professionalism, confidentiality, and diplomacy
  • Proven case documentation and effective information reporting practices
  • A reliable Vehicle, Valid Driver’s License, Vehicle Registration and Third-Party Liability Insurance (amount of two million)
  • Police Information Check including vulnerable sector search, and Intervention Record Check current within six (6) months
  • Summary of driving record with no more than six (6) demerit points current within one (1) year.
