A successful and well-tenured Construction / Manufacturing company in Edmonton is seeking a Controller through Robert Half to take responsibility for its accounting and operations department. This permanent position is for a Controller who will work in the Edmonton, Alberta region. Planning and directing all accounting operational functions, handling the accumulation and consolidation of financial data for internal and external financial statements, evaluating accounting and internal control systems, and leading departmental staff will be essential for this role. If you can effectively manage self and others within strict time constraints / KPI's when providing client services, and are a creative type who can lead while also being a team player, generate innovative ideas, and challenge the status quo, you might be right for this position. Your responsibilities in this role :

  • Evaluate, apply and refine policies, procedures, and controls within the finance and accounting department
  • Work closely with executive team and partners to ensure efficient and successful firm-wide operation
  • Manage the creation of and monthly monitoring of the annual budget and forecasts
  • Direct finance department activities, such as overseeing / providing leadership to accounts payable, billings & collections, and payroll
  • Complete month-end and year-end close of income statement and balance sheet, reconcile accounts, and handle G / L analysis
  • Handle daily cash management and produce cash-flow reports, calculating cash needs at weekly and monthly intervals
  • Analyze deliverables of self and team to confirm they meet client expectations
  • Research, plan and implement Finance Department initiatives including software and systems implementation and other departmental or firm-wide improvements, as required
  • Provide financial reports to executive committee and partners each month
  • Drive the timing for monthly billing and other cash management techniques to ensure the timely cash collection

Job Requirements :

  • CPA designation preferred
  • Outstanding communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills, both oral and written, and ability to build as well as deliver effective presentations
  • Full Cycle Accounting experience
  • Annual Operating Budget experience
  • Strong familiarity with year end / month end closings
  • Adeptness in Consolidated Financial Statements
  • General familiarity with financial statements consolidation
  • Demonstrated knowledge of financial statement preparation
