Recreation Programmer

As a Recreation Programmer on the Parkland At The Lakes 1 team in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, you will plan, implement, and evaluate recreation programs that address the physical, social, cultural, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual needs of our clients.
About the Opportunity
- Plan, implement and evaluate internal and external recreation programs.
- Conduct programs in a variety of settings : large groups, small groups, and one‑to‑one.
- Collaborate with clients and families to meet program expectations and needs.
- Demonstrate effective communication and respect for clients’ cultural, moral, and ethical values.
- Modify service delivery to support changing health status or responsive behavior.
- Build rapport with clients and families, promoting independence and the right to refuse services.
- Prepare rooms and equipment; maintain supplies; clean recreation areas.
- Motivate and facilitate client participation and community involvement.
- Collaborate with Substitute Decision Makers on recreation‑related goals and interventions.
- Document client progress, admission assessments, and other required reports.
- Maintain accurate participation records; analyze data to help develop appropriate programs.
- Transport residents to scheduled events and outings.
- Assist in training, supervising, and evaluating volunteers and student placements.
- Promote a safety culture, including hazard identification, safe work practices, PPE use, and safety education.
- Ensure client safety by following operational procedures and training.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
About You
Two‑year post‑secondary diploma in Recreation / Leisure Studies.Current, valid CPR and First Aid certification.Basics Food Safety Training / Food Handlers Course.Class 4 driver’s licence if clients are transported by facility vehicle.Knowledge of techniques and equipment for diverse recreation programs in a therapeutic setting.Understanding of human behavior related to recreational needs.Strong computer literacy (word processing, spreadsheet, database).Ability to maintain recreation program records.Ability to read and write in English.High initiative, effort, and commitment to completing assignments efficiently.Can work with minimal supervision.Responsible behavior and attention to detail.Meaningful Benefits
