Salary Range : $42.57 - $59.83
Reporting to the Manager of Professional Practice the Clinical Educator / Facilitator (CEF) Mental Health serves as a role model and leader to support care that optimizes patient outcomes and experiences while enhancing the safety efficiency effectiveness and accessibility of patient care by :
Assessing planning implementing and evaluating education for nursing and the inter-professional teamEnhancing current knowledge and skills of theory and practice in their area of specialty through continuous learningServing as a clinical practice / education resource using sound clinical judgement(informed by clinical best practices)Being change agents and roles models that advocate for and create learning / education environments (and opportunities) that enhance clinical and professional practice and life-long learningWorking with other clinical leaders to support the development of staff including participation in corporate education and other initiativesCollaborating with inter-professional teams and external partners to influence and advance best practices in education and evidence-based practiceResponsibilities :
The primary role of the Clinical Educator / Facilitator Mental Health is to facilitate a learning environment where evidence-based knowledge is translated via education to optimize the patients outcomes and experiences. This includes developing educational plans and activities aimed at improving clinical knowledge skills and competencies and in collaboration with others and supporting the ongoing professional development of unit / program staff.
The Clinical Educator / Facilitator has three main areas of responsibility.
Education and Nursing Practice :
Education and staff developmentAssess learning needs and styles of inter-professional teamDesign and deliver education that is tailored to specific needs of individual / unit / programDevelop curricula using contemporary educational theories principles and modelsIncorporates best evidence and relevant research findings into content and delivery methodsIncorporates best practices in education (e.g. principles of adult learning domains of learning)Incorporates inter-professional core competencies where applicableMonitors and evaluates education and mastery of student learning; revises education and learning activities to meet emerging needsProvides timely feedback to staff on their learning and application to their practice competenceDemonstrates professionalism including legal ethical and professional values as a basis for developing nursing standards guidelines policies procedures and decision makingCollaboration Communication and Partnership :
Engages and collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to identify and support educational clinical practice and corporate initiativesEngages members of the intra- and inter-professional team management team and across hospital departments in planning developing implementing and evaluating educational clinical practice and corporate initiativesActively participates in the Clinical Educator / Facilitator team and works collaboratively with other CEF colleaguesCollaborates with the hospitals Inter-professional Education Coordinator to facilitate nursing student placements and adherence to learning management system requirementsCollaborates with Clinical Manager(s) in interviewing hiring and contributing to the evaluation of nursing health disciplines and clerical staffParticipates in hospital and corporate committees and other groups to represent the CEF perspective and serves as a bridge to the unit / program and Clinical Educator / Facilitator team by disseminating committee information and decisionsQuality Research and Leadership :
Supports and participates in the implementation of evidence-based practice (best practice guidelines and other forms of evidence) and quality improvement initiatives on unit / in programs including corporate initiativesLeads supports and participates in programmatic and unit / clinic-based quality improvement initiativesUtilizes critical inquiry and the ability to participate in research translate knowledge and utilize findings to identify and address educational and practice-based challengesDevelops implements and maintains policies medical directives and preprinted order sets to support best practices in mental health care.Demonstrates the key skills behaviours abilities and knowledge required to make meaningful health system change integrate actions dedicated to patient family and community care and build healthy workplacesEmbodies the LEADS in a Caring Environment capabilities to develop and maintain initiatives and programmes that will shape the future of health profession education and clinical practiceQualifications :
Must be Registered with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)Diploma in Nursing or Baccalaureate degree in NursingMasters degree in Nursing or related health field or willing to work towardsCompletion of a Basic Cardiac Life Support (B.C.L.S.) program is requiredCertificate in Nursing Education for the Practice Setting preferredMinimum of 5 years experience in Mental HealthFormal preparation as an educator / clinical instructor or evidence of working towards is requiredCanadian Nurses Association (CNA) certification in relevant specialty is preferredDemonstrated commitment to the mission and values of Cambridge Memorial HospitalMust have an excellent attendance recordSkills and Qualifications :
Current Certificate of Registration with the College of Nurses in Ontario (CNO) as a Registered Nurse in good standing requiredDiploma or Baccalaureate degree in Nursing requiredMinimum of 5 years experience in Mental HealthComprehensive knowledge of mental illness and treatment.Comprehensive knowledge of substance use and treatment.Demonstrated knowledge of Trauma Informed Practice and Harm Reduction oriented care.Experience caring for mental health patients from young adults to seniors.Masters degree in Nursing is requiredRecent formal education and experience in adult education within the past 2 years requiredBCLS required.Demonstrate a commitment to continuous learning related to surgical / rehabilitation nursing is requiredDemonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basisis requiredDemonstrated advanced critical thinking process improvement / redesign and problem solving skillsExcellent interpersonal written and oral communication skillsStrong commitment to recovery principles and patient centered care.Demonstrated ability to engage teamsProfessional practice experience in program planning curriculum design learning technologies and facilitation skills within the past 2 years requiredComputer literacy and proficiency in MS Office and Meditech requiredDemonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis is required.As per the O.N.A. Collective Agreement all O.N.A. members (full-time part-time and casual) are eligible to apply for this position.
