Requirements & Qualifications

Education : Registered Apprenticeship certificate, Cosmetology / General, Barbering, Hair Styling / Design

Certifications & Licences : Barbering Trade Certification, Hairstylist Trade Certification, Hairstyling Red Seal Certificate, Barber Licence, Hairstylist Licence

Apprenticeship Training : Level Three, Four, or Five

Hair Styling Techniques : Blow drying, Braiding, Iron waving / curling

Teaching Experience : Classroom (preferred)

Experience : Asset (any experience in the field is considered an asset)

Language : English

Supervision Capacity : Able to supervise 3–4 people

Responsibilities

Analyze hair and scalp condition

Provide custom hair and scalp treatments

Shampoo customers’ hair

Supervise other hair stylists and staff

Suggest hairstyles compatible with clients’ features and preferences

Provide job training and support to apprentices

Advise job applicants on employment requirements and terms

Teach professional development courses

Identify barriers to employment and assist clients with job readiness skills, résumé writing, and interview preparation

Collect labour market information for clients regarding job openings and skill requirements
