Our client’s Canadian renewables division delivers comprehensive, turnkey engineering and construction solutions for utility-scale wind, solar, and energy storage projects across Canada. As an Estimator, you will play a key role in shaping processes within a growing organization while leveraging proven best practices and extensive technical expertise to support Canada’s clean energy transition.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Estimator is responsible for planning, coordinating, and developing detailed cost estimates for large-scale (100 MW+) wind and solar energy projects. Working closely with Project Managers, Site Superintendents, engineering teams, and procurement, the Estimator evaluates labor and contractor requirements, assesses project profitability, prepares pricing submissions, and maintains accurate cost databases. This role utilizes established estimating platforms, tools, and standardized processes to ensure consistency, accuracy, and efficiency, ultimately supporting successful project execution and financial performance.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Project Planning & Estimating

• Develop preliminary project schedules in collaboration with project management, engineering, construction, and field accounting teams

• Partner with project managers, field leadership, and engineers to identify opportunities for process improvement and enhanced efficiency

• Prepare crew-based production estimates using historical data, research, and productivity analysis

• Develop complete proposal packages and lead estimate presentations to clients

• Conduct bid reviews outlining estimating methodology, assumptions, historical analysis, and risk/opportunity assessments to support margin decisions

• Collaborate closely with engineering teams throughout the design phase to ensure constructability and clarity of scope

2. Client Coordination & Support

• Support delivery of renewable energy projects that meet safety, quality, schedule, and budget expectations

• Gather and consolidate client inputs required for accurate project estimating

• Review estimates with clients to ensure alignment on scope, schedule, budget, and procurement strategies

• Respond to client inquiries in a collaborative, solution-oriented manner

3. Procurement & Vendor Engagement

• Coordinate with procurement, scheduling, and project development teams during local bidding efforts

• Develop and/or review subcontractor and supplier scopes, pricing, and schedule documentation

• Support local and First Nation procurement initiatives in coordination with procurement teams

REQUIRED SKILLS & COMPETENCIES

• Strong interpersonal skills with a proven ability to build collaborative teams

• Self-motivated with excellent analytical and problem-solving capabilities

• Effective communicator across multidisciplinary technical and construction teams

• Solid understanding of EPC project delivery and construction sequencing

• Ability to break down construction methods into crew-based production models

• Experience developing and maintaining dynamic estimating tools and cost models

• Capability to coach and mentor junior staff to build technical and operational expertise

• Working knowledge of scheduling software (Primavera P6 preferred) and estimating software (Hard Dollar experience considered an asset)

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Construction Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience)

• Previous experience in construction or contracting within the power generation or renewable energy sector

• Broad understanding of engineering, construction methodologies, and project management activities, including estimating, scheduling, bidding, procurement, contract administration, field supervision, cost control, safety, and quality

• Strong knowledge of materials, equipment, and construction methods used in renewable energy projects

LOCATION & TRAVEL

This position offers a hybrid work arrangement, with a minimum of three days per week in the Calgary office and remaining days remote. Travel to potential project sites is required during the proposal phase and throughout project execution as needed.
