Senior Cost Accountant

Our client is a leading environmental and logistics organization committed to sustainable operations, innovative service delivery, and continuous improvement. With large-scale operations across multiple sites, they are seeking a highly analytical and experienced Senior Cost Accountant to strengthen their financial reporting and operational cost oversight.

Position Summary

The Senior Cost Accountant will be responsible for overseeing and optimizing the company’s cost accounting framework, ensuring accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, and meaningful cost insights for leadership. This role partners closely with operations, logistics, procurement, and finance teams to support strategic decision‑making. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast‑paced, operational environment and brings proven experience in cost analysis, inventory accounting, and process improvement.

Key Responsibilities

Cost Accounting & Analysis

Lead all cost accounting activities, including product costing, job costing, standard cost development, and variance analysis.

Analyze operational costs across logistics, environmental services, transportation, and supply chain functions to identify trends and opportunities.

Prepare monthly cost reports, margin analyses, and performance dashboards for senior leadership.

Review and maintain cost structures, pricing models, and financial assumptions.

Inventory & Operational Accounting

Oversee inventory accounting, cycle counts, reconciliations, and valuation across multiple sites.

Partner with operations to validate inventory movements, scrap, waste, and production metrics.

Support implementation and maintenance of strong internal controls related to inventory and cost processes.

Financial Reporting & Controls

Prepare monthly journal entries, account reconciliations, and cost‑related financial statements.

Ensure compliance with corporate accounting policies, financial standards, and audit requirements.

Assist in budget development, forecasting, and annual standard cost updates.

Cross‑Functional Collaboration

Partner with operations, logistics, procurement, and finance to provide cost insights and operational transparency.

Support business case development, cost‑saving analyses, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Participate in system enhancements, ERP optimization, and process improvements in the cost accounting function.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or CPA‑in‑progress preferred.

4–7+ years of cost accounting experience, ideally in environmental services, manufacturing, logistics, or industrial operations.

Strong knowledge of cost accounting principles, inventory accounting, and standard costing.

Hands‑on experience with ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, MS Dynamics, or similar).

Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, modeling).

Excellent analytical, communication, and problem‑solving skills.

Ability to work onsite full‑time at the Stoney Creek facility.
