Professor, Associate Professor and Assistant Professor ranks

The Department of Electronic and Computer Engineering (ECE) at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology invites applications for tenure-track faculty positions at Professor, Associate Professor and Assistant Professor ranks. The Department comprises faculty conducting research in frontier technologies in a wide scope of fields including biomedical engineering, microelectronics, integrated circuits and systems, photonics, control and robotic systems, data science and artificial intelligence (AI), quantum engineering, and wireless communications and networking.

The Department is interested in outstanding candidates in all ECE-related areas and particularly in control and robotic systems; microelectronics and photonics; networking; and quantum engineering. The School of Engineering at HKUST has launched an aggressive global search to attract internationally renowned scholars and their teams to work in Hong Kong.

The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology is a world-renowned research university in Asia’s most vibrant city, Hong Kong. According to THE World University Rankings by Subject - Engineering and Technology in 2025, HKUST is ranked #33 in the world. Its Engineering School offers outstanding opportunities and state-of-the-art facilities for faculty and students to pursue innovative research in diverse disciplines within an essentially a north-American education system. The Department has about 50 faculty members, 600 undergraduate students and over 300 postgraduate students. It provides an excellent environment for multidisciplinary research, with close links to other departments within the School of Engineering and to other Schools through joint appointments and active involvements in cross-cutting Institutes and Centers in Quantum Technology, Robotics, Artificial Intelligence, Big Data, and Energy.

Salary is highly competitive and will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits include medical / dental benefits and annual leave. Housing benefits, including on-campus housing, will be provided where applicable. Substantial support is also provided to faculty in terms of first-rate research facilities, equipment, and research postgraduate studentships. For appointment at Assistant Professor level, the initial appointment will normally be on a three-year contract. A gratuity will be payable upon completion of the contract.
