As a Water Resources Engineer, you will join our Edmonton or Calgary, Alberta office as part of our Western Surface Water Engineering team.

The successful applicant will be involved in a broad range of water resources projects for a diverse set of clients with responsibilities that may include :

Provide engineering analysis and design for urban drainage and surface water management projects, for both private and public clients, including design of stormwater facilities and infrastructure, low impact development (LID) designs, master drainage planning, stormwater analysis, hydrologic and hydraulic modelling of dual drainage systems, and water balance studies.

Prepare conceptual, preliminary, and detailed designs of stormwater management infrastructure and erosion and sediment control practices.

Prepare and / or review construction cost estimates and tender specifications.

Provide resident engineering and contract administration support for construction projects.

Successfully manage project budgets, invoicing, scheduling, change management, and client management.

Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams, which may include hydrogeological, geotechnical, survey, landscape design, transportation, structural, mechanical, electrical, and natural sciences disciplines.

Direct and support field data collection exercises as well as data synthesis / analysis; including site reconnaissance, and topographic surveying.

Provide technical support and mentoring to junior team members.

Work with regulatory agencies and clients to address project-specific challenges.

Obtain relevant provincial and federal regulatory approvals for construction projects.

Prepare technical reports and work plans.

Support business development initiatives including preparing proposals.

Build strong client relationships and liaise with stakeholders.

Willing to travel within Alberta, BC, and SK to support projects or business development initiatives.

Actively participate in Matrix strong Health and Safety culture.

What We Are Looking For

5 or more years of experience in water resources engineering specifically related to the design, construction, and project management of water resources projects, with a particular focus on urban water resources and municipal engineering projects.

Professional Engineer designation (or candidacy) with APEGA is required.

Bachelor’s degree in Water Resources Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related field. A graduate degree would be considered an asset.

Experience with preparing detailed designs, construction cost estimates, technical specifications, and tender / procurement packages.

Previous project experience for clients such as the City of Calgary and / or surrounding municipalities would be considered an asset.

Comprehensive knowledge of current regulations and legislation.

Ability to effectively manage projects of various sizes and complexity simultaneously.

Experience in writing technical reports and proposals and giving presentations to multi-stakeholder groups.

Strong ability to convey complex concepts in a clear and concise manner, both verbally and written.

Self-motivated individual, possessing strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Experience with various water resources modeling software EPA SWMM, PCSWMM, MIKE, InfoWorks, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, SWAT, HSPF, EFDC) would be considered an asset.

Experience with Python, ’R’, or VBA would be considered an asset.

Experience with design and drafting software such as ArcGIS, AutoCAD and Civil3D would be an asset.

A valid Class 5 driver’s license with no restrictions and a clean driving record.
