This position primarily provides welcoming and efficient support for the Library’s main service point, including circulating library materials, assisting in stacks maintenance (shelving, shifting), processing textbook sales, and responding to routine informational inquiries.
The office assistant is also required to provide support to units within the Library portfolio by performing routine, project-related tasks under supervision
Primary Position Outcomes :
- Provides positive, professional, and proactive interactions with clients that empower them in their use the resources and services available in the Library that support their research, learning, and teaching.
- Prepares for customer inquiries by studying policies, procedures, and client service processes.
- Provides friendly, courteous and efficient service to our customers by understanding their inquiry, routing and directing client requests to appropriate personnel as necessary, gathering and researching information, assembling and forwarding information, and verifying the client's understanding of the information and the answer.
- Records client inquiries by documenting inquiry as appropriate.
- Helps to improve quality service by recommending improved processes
- Achieves accurate, timely treatment of routine administrative and project-related tasks in order to assure the timely supply of resources and services in support of University teaching, learning, and research.
- Maintains physical library resources and bibliographic data according to applicable standards in order to support reliable research and retrieval in the Library database and to facilitate data exchange.
- Is sensitive to the effect of personal language and actions on others and takes a professional approach to maintaining positive relationships and resolving conflict in order to promote a respectful and harmonious work environment.
- Adheres to the execution of established safety, security, quality, and Library policies, procedures and practices.
Job Requirements
- A minimum of 1 year experience providing exceptional customer service
- Library experience in related functional areas preferred
- Library technician diploma or equivalent would be an asset
- Strong computer skills (integrated library systems and MS Office suite)
- Ability to operate a point of sales system
- Excellent communication and organization skills
- Ability to work effectively in a changing and innovative institutional environment
Additional Information
This is a temporary, casual position working variable hours to June 30, 2025, with the possibility of extension. This position has been evaluated at ADM-B with an hourly pay rate of $26.
