Job Purpose
The Apprentice Cabinet Maker is responsible for assisting with building, repairing and installing cabinetry and related products. An effective Apprentice Cabinet Maker is eager to learn, creative and enjoys physically challenging wood work. They comprehend instructions and problem solve to execute them effectively.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Study plans, specifications, drawings and blueprints
- Carry out measurement tasks
- Select and combine materials for an attractive end-product
- Mark outlines or dimensions for product parts on wood
- Operate woodworking machines such as table saws, jointers, edge banders, and shapers and use hand tools to cut, shape and form parts and components
- Machine and trim joints and fit parts and subassemblies together to form complete unit using glue, clamps, nails, dowels, screws or other fasteners
- Sand surfaces and apply veneer, stain, paint or polish to finished products
- Install finished products on job sites
- Assisting coworkers with other priority tasks within the shop or on site as instructed
- May estimate the amount, type and cost of materials needed
- Additional related duties as assigned
- Follow company standard operating procedures
Qualifications
Enrolled as an Apprentice Cabinet Maker or Joiner (currently or eligible to be a member of Skilled Trades BC) having completed 1st YearWorking knowledge of different cabinet making materials and techniquesExperience with appropriate tools and equipmentAbility to read blueprints and technical drawingsCapability to evaluate the quality of woodwork and materialsPass a criminal record check and drivers abstract checkCore Competencies
Collaborative workerExcellent judgment and decision makingOutstanding hand-eye coordinationWillingness to always follow and uphold safety guidelinesAbility to assess performance, create standard processes, take corrective action and implement new proceduresActive listening and monitoring skillsExcellent command of the English languageAble to lift heavy items independently (approx. 80lbs)A valid class 5 Driver’s license is an assetFirst aid certificate is an assetForklift certification is an assetWorking Conditions
