Assistant Lighting Designer and Project Manager, Lighting

New Production

Temporary position (15 months)

We have a place for individuals with a distinct penchant for ensuring the smooth operation of our shows and events, for conceiving remarkable products, for putting their ingenuity at the service of their team, and for contributing to the enhancement of their expertise and the development of exceptional practices.

Main Responsibilities :

  • Support the Lighting Designer in developing the lighting concept for the show;
  • Work closely with members of the Creation and Production teams;
  • Actively coordinate the creative and technical requirements of the show;
  • Create, update, and communicate plans, lists of equipment, effects and colours, and any other documents relating to lighting design and installation to the individuals concerned, throughout the show creation process;
  • Draft and correct lighting specifications;
  • Organize and participate in lighting equipment demonstrations, testing sessions and workshops;
  • Prepare lighting project schedules and budgets, and monitor them closely;
  • Attend and participate in all production and creative meetings, as required;
  • Supervise the installation and proper use of purchased or manufactured lighting equipment;
  • Attend rehearsals in the studio or on stage;
  • Draft and gather technical documentation, user manuals and inspection procedures for the elements under your responsibility, in accordance with the expectations of the Production and Operations teams and with
  • Cirque du Soleil standards;
  • Organise Technical training for the Operations Lighting department
  • Perform all other related tasks as requested by the Technical Director.

You possess the following professional and technical skills :

  • College-level diploma (DEC) or professional training in show production or equivalent;
  • Eight to ten years’ experience in show production, including an ability to demonstrate relevant working experience as a project manager and / or assistant lighting designer;
  • Working experience with AutoCAD, Sketchup, Word, Excel and Outlook;
  • Knowledge of professional standards for lighting plots and paperwork;
  • Fluency in English, French speaking an asset;
  • Familiarity with lighting consoles such as MA Lighting;
  • Ability to work under pressure and availability to work flexible hours;
  • Good organizational, priority management and budgeting skills;
  • Familiarity with project management tools and principles;
  • Available to travel for a minimum of 4 months.
