Waste Management Lead Engineer - Ontario at GHD

Our Ontario Region is seeking a Waste Management Lead Engineer to join our North American waste management team of 120 professionals providing traditional and emerging services with our waste and energy clients. This position offers an exciting opportunity to grow our North American team and leverage GHD’s experience in innovative technologies. The role can be based out of any of our offices in the GTA – Mississauga, Markham, Toronto or Waterloo.

Responsibilities
- Lead waste and energy solutions projects for municipal and private clients, requiring permitting, detailed design, construction management, inspection, operations support, and related studies.
- Develop technical approaches for new project proposals.
- Perform peer reviews of designs and provide leadership in growth and direction of the North American Team.
- Conduct complex feasibility studies – technological, organizational, and cost‑benefit analysis.
- Manage specific waste management segments involving reductions, segregation, compliance, storage, transport, and disposal.
- Manage a portfolio of projects while reporting to senior colleagues.
- Maintain long‑lasting client relationships with municipal and private clients and prospects.
- Mentor intermediate and junior technical staff across North America.
- Coordinate liaison activities with regulators.
- Analyze information, draft engineering standards and specifications, evaluate effectiveness within discipline.
- Monitor and review performance against HSE KPIs and address non‑compliance.
Qualifications
Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Ontario required; accreditation in other Canadian provinces is an asset.15+ years of experience in waste and energy engineering.Valid Ontario driver's license with a good driving record.Willingness and ability for occasional project travel and oversight of field work.Proficiency in MS Office, Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint.Working knowledge of Autodesk, AutoCAD or Civil 3D is an asset.Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Experience with landfill & landfill gas, transfer stations, waste facility design; organic waste processing, waste processing technologies, and energy projects is considered an asset.Equal Employment Opportunity Statement
