Job Description
AECOM Canada ULC is actively seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer in Edmonton, AB. The successful candidate will design and analyze foundations, retaining structures, embankments, railways, highways, airports, excavation support systems, tunnels, and trenchless construction. This role offers the opportunity to work on major transportation, water resources, marine, civil infrastructure, and building projects while developing and growing our geotechnical practice in Western Canada.
- Work with diverse teams of engineers, designers, and drafters from conceptual design through preliminary and final design
- Mentor and train junior geotechnical engineers
- Manage projects and be responsible for completion on schedule and financial performance
- Resolve complex geotechnical issues
- Write, compile, and review geotechnical reports and proposals for major projects
- Prepare and present technical papers and contribute to advancement of earth science in our area of technical specialization
- Maintain quality throughout a project and implement improvements when determined
- Prepare project summary reports
- Encourage growth within the group and improve the general knowledge base throughout the company
- Develop and sustain long‑lasting business relationships with clients
- Be a role model and technical mentor for our staff
- Travel within Canada when required
Qualifications
B.Sc. (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering with a focus on Geotechnical Engineering from a CEAB‑accredited institution8 years of experience in geotechnical engineering and / or demonstrated equivalencyRegistered professional engineer (P.Eng.) in Alberta; registration in other provinces is an assetValid driver’s license with clean recordExperience in client service and business developmentStrong understanding of finite element theory for soil and rock, including knowledge of advanced geotechnics as it relates to real soil behaviorAdvanced knowledge of models associated with seepage and consolidationExcellent verbal, written communication skillsProactive problem‑solving skills and ability to maintain organization in a changing environmentExperience with intrusive and non‑intrusive field investigations, laboratory testing, and material characterizationExperience with coupled and uncoupled seepage analysis, slope stability analysis, and deformation analysisExperience with liquefaction assessment and seismic engineering related to civil engineering projects is an assetExperience with conceptual, feasibility, preliminary, detailed design, construction, and site closureAbility to work in a fast‑paced environment, independently and in a teamCompensation
The offered rate of compensation will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The salary range for this position is CAD 120,000 to CAD 160,000 per year.
