Pharmacy Assistant (Part‑time) – Walmart Canada
The Pharmacy Assistant assists the Pharmacist in the technical aspects of prescription filling and administrative duties to increase the Pharmacist’s opportunity to provide patient care. The Pharmacy Assistant is expected to participate in all aspects of Pharmacy Operations required of a team player and is a key member in the delivery of superior customer service.
What You’ll Do
- Receive prescriptions from patients, following provincial legal / regulatory conditions and assessing the prescription for completeness (Name; Address; DOB; Allergies; 3rd Party Information; Any Special Requests; Prescriber; Generic / Brand) and prioritizing prescriptions with 21st Century Guidelines.
- Perform computer functions as directed by the Pharmacist (Data Entry; Price Check; Patient Information Entry / Update; interpreting and processing written prescriptions including Latin abbreviations and drug name recognition, dosage calculations, Refills, Report Generation; Patient Profile checks).
- Fill prescriptions under the Pharmacist’s supervision, selecting appropriate products, performing the accuracy program (7‑point, Visual and DIN checks), counting / measuring & preparing appropriate products, labeling and organizing for pharmacist checking, obtaining necessary approvals for verbal refills, and employing STOP forms and facilitating all aspects of Cognitive Services.
- Maintain inventory control, assist the Pharmacist in maintaining appropriate stock levels of drugs and supplies, check for and pull expired medications monthly, clean the Will‑Call bin, write up returns, order drugs and supplies from preferred wholesalers, and operate the Telxon gun, labeling, pricing, and shelving pharmacy orders.
- Perform general housekeeping : stock prescription‑filling supplies, keep the dispensary clean and organized, maintain a safe work environment, and keep packaging & dispensing equipment, computer, fax machine, etc., in clean condition.
- Assume clerical organization duties : file prescriptions, invoices, reports, correspondence, memos, and complete any administrative support functions assigned (journals, accounts receivable, aged trial balance).
- Assist with OTC operations, ordering, stocking, and cashier duties as assigned by the OTC Manager or Pharmacist.
The pay range for this position is $17.60 – $23.10 per hour. Rate of pay will be determined based on relevant experience.
