Position Overview : The DSBN Maintenance Department is seeking qualified, organized, and resourceful trade candidates to complete demand and programmed work orders.

For G1 applicants, preventative and predictive maintenance of gas-fired boiler and hot-water systems is their primary function.

For 313A applicants, building automation system operation (Johnson Controls and Siemens), air handling systems, and associated controls is their primary function.

The Maintenance Mechanic position is assigned work orders through the DSBN Maintenance Department computerized maintenance management system eBASE.

Work orders are received through a board-provided laptop and investigated on-site by utilizing the resources and knowledge of the Maintenance Department lead hands, Supervisors, and on-site custodians.

Duties : Perform demand, predictive, and preventative maintenance on gas-fired equipment as assigned. Ensure compliance with all standard construction and maintenance practices, including building codes, regulations, and standards.

Ensure administrative tasks, policies, and procedures are properly performed and followed according to Board, Supervisor and / or Manager direction.

Abide by terms of Collective Agreement. The primary duties described above shall not be considered the totality of responsibilities and tasks that may be assigned.

Qualifications : Valid G.1 - Gas Fitter Certificate in good standing (O. Reg 215 / 01) and / or; Valid 313A Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Systems Mechanic (Ontario College of Trades) Valid Ontario Driver's License.

Skills and Requirements : Knowledge and experience in servicing and troubleshooting a wide variety of gas-fired equipment including boilers, air handlers, roof-top units, and hot water tanks.

Demonstrable experience with atmospheric, induced draft, and condensing boilers specifically Lochinvar and Viessmann brands.

Knowledge and experience in servicing and troubleshooting air handling equipment and associated controls including zone units, unit ventilators, and pumps.

Demonstrable experience with building automation systems specifically Johnson Controls and Siemens systems. Attention to detail and the capacity to produce organized, clear paperwork is essential.

Compensation and Benefits : Salary Grid Level 1-S, $32.97 per hour. This is a permanent, 40-hour position in the CUPE Union Group including group benefits, an OMERS pension plan, and incrementally progressing paid vacation.

The Maintenance Mechanic will work primarily from the St. Catharines Service Centre (9 Wright Street, St. Catharines); and as required and assigned throughout the DSBN school system utilizing a DSBN Maintenance vehicle.
