The Opportunity
Are you ready to apply your knowledge in the real world? We are hiring a Co-op Audit Servicesfor the Fall Term (September 2024 - December 2024)within our Audit Servicesteam.
In this role, you will be working closely with the SOx compliance team and other colleagues across the Emera group of companies.
This is a wonderful opportunity to work alongside current and prospective CPAs (Chartered Professional Accountants) in an internal audit environment.
What you'll do :
In a Co-Op role, you will be learning about the Emera group of companies and the internal control environment. More specifically, in this role you will :
- You will be involved in performing analysis and testing of internal control activities to ensure compliance with documented Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) requirements.
- Assist the SR Auditor with business process controls testing for various business processes across the organization (for example : Account reconciliations, journal entry reviews, etc.
Completing control design and operating effectiveness tests.As needed, attend meetings with Business Process owners to gain further understanding on processes and / or discuss potential issues.
Assist SR Auditor and Management with control deficiencies identified through testing.
Assist the SR Auditor with internal team initiatives and quarterly reporting responsibilities.
By the end of the work-term, the co-op student should :
- Have a better understanding of how processes across the organization work.
- Get exposure to different operating companies within Emera, and an understanding of how they conduct their business.
- Understand organizational control environments and the role and importance of SOX.
- Be able to assess control designs and perform accompanying operational effectiveness testing.
- Gain experience working in an Internal Audit team with other CPAs and potential qualifying hours as a future CPA.
Who you are :
As the ideal candidate you recognize yourself in most of the following competencies, and possess or are working towards the desired skills and experience listed below :
- 2+ years enrolled in a program of study focused on Commerce / Business Administration / Accounting.
- Has an interest in learning more about and / or pursuing the CPA Program.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Strong organization skills.
- Strong attention to detail.
