Initially established in 1987, OSCO Aggregates supplies construction aggregate products throughout Colchester County, Nova Scotia, the greater Moncton area of New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island. With two Nova Scotia locations in Glenholme and Canaan Mountain, OSCO Aggregates supplies crushed and natural construction aggregates for the concrete, asphalt, roadbuilding and excavation industries. In addition, it manufactures specialty aggregates, such as pea stone for playgrounds, roofing ballast and coloured granite for use in exposed aggregate concrete.
Job Summary
The Aggregate / Geological Engineer will assist in managing our various sand and gravel operations. The ideal candidate will be a detail-oriented problem solver with hands-on leadership skills who thrives in a fast-paced environment. This position offers significant opportunities for professional growth. Due to the nature of the position, there will be a significant amount of time spent travelling to various operations throughout the maritime provinces and Ontario.
Responsibilities
- Direct geotechnical projects, including field investigations, analysis, laboratory testing and interpretation
- Assist with developing overall long-term master plans for each operation, maximizing the use of resources and addressing reclamation and rehabilitation issues to meet the requirements of operating permits
- Assist in supervising and directing the day-to-day operation of each facility
- Create and implement preventative maintenance plans for the equipment, developing an ongoing equipment replacement schedule
- Manage quality control including critical review of results in collaboration with other businesses and departments
- Assist in managing both new and existing customer relationships, seeking business development opportunities when possible
- Research, discover and create business plans for new resource sites and assist in their acquisition, permitting and production development to meet the requirements of business lines and area market requirements
- Additional duties as assigned
- Prior practical engineering experience within a relevant field, preferably focusing with aggregates or mineral resourcing
- Assist with developing annual production plans and operating budgets
Technical Requirements
Bachelor of Science in Civil, Geological or Mineral Resource Engineering, or a related disciplinePost-graduate studies in Civil / Mineral resource engineering will be considered an assetProfessional Engineering designation or an Engineer in Training with P.Eng eligibilityKnowledge of fundamental requirements of geological or mineral resource engineering and basic knowledge of additional civil engineering fields / best practicesBusiness Requirements
