Overview
WSP is seeking a Civil Lead for our Rail & Transit Team located in Greater Toronto (GTA). The role leads multidisciplinary municipal design projects, providing technical expertise, guidance, and leadership to ensure successful execution of civil engineering tasks that meet industry standards, regulations, and project objectives.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the subject matter expert in civil engineering, leading and guiding the project team.
- Oversee the comprehensive scope and design management for roadway, drainage, utilities, and traffic.
- Collaborate with the Project Manager and other Discipline Leads to develop detailed plans for civil engineering execution.
- Lead the development, review, and approval of engineering designs, drawings, calculations, and specifications for rail and transit projects.
- Ensure alignment with best practices, industry standards, and project requirements.
- Track progress and ensure timely delivery of high‑quality outputs.
- Implement rigorous quality control measures to meet established standards and regulatory requirements.
- Manage resource allocation and budget for civil engineering tasks, identifying needs and justifying additional support.
- Identify potential risks and challenges, developing mitigation strategies to prevent delays and cost overruns.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant safety regulations, codes, and industry standards.
- Maintain clear communication with stakeholders, providing progress updates and addressing technical concerns.
- Prepare technical analyses, designs, reports, and construction cost estimates; review shop drawings.
- Coordinate field inspections, liaise with clients and agencies.
- Oversee the development of Basis of Design documents, BIM LOD documentation, combined services drawings, and specifications.
- Perform additional duties as assigned, including work outside normal hours when necessary.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from an accredited university; master’s degree desirable.Professional Engineer (P.Eng) designation in Ontario.10‑15 years of experience leading and managing engineering teams for municipal, provincial, or federal delivery projects, preferably within the rail and transit sector.In‑depth knowledge of civil engineering principles, standards, and best practices.Familiarity with rail and transit industry regulations, environmental permitting, and City of Toronto requirements.Excellent problem‑solving, analytical, and decision‑making skills.Strong communication and interpersonal abilities for effective collaboration.Proficiency in engineering software : Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Revit, Water / Sewer GEMS, EPANET.Good technical writing skills and command of English, written and verbal.Sound judgment, organizational, and administrative skills.Vehicle and valid driver’s license required.Ability to perform physical tasks and work in varied environmental conditions, as required for safety‑sensitive positions.Additional Qualifications
Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is an asset.Experience with rail and transit projects is an asset.Exceptional interpersonal skills for cross‑disciplinary collaboration.Strategic, conceptual analytical thinking and decision‑making.Willingness to learn and adaptability to manage deadline pressure, ambiguity, and change.Experience in a Consulting Engineering environment is an asset.Benefits
