CLASSIFICATION : Fort Henry Guard

COMPENSATION GROUP : OPSEU - Technical

SALARY RANGE : $15.50 per hour

  • Note : In the event that there is a legislated increase to the minimum wage, employees at the start rate of the Fort Henry Guard classification will receive the new hourly rate of pay.

PERIOD OF EMPLOYMENT : September 20th, 2023 – October 31, 2023, Group 2 seasonal recurring

HOURS OF WORK : Variable to 36 hours per week

DIVISION : Fort Henry National Historic Site

LOCATION : Kingston

WHAT CAN I EXPECT TO DO IN THIS ROLE?

You will :

  • Greet, orient and direct visitors by communicating key event information and health and safety reminders as they enter Fort Henry’s fall attraction, Fort Fright.
  • Assist with congestion of arriving ticket holders; provide direction and critical wayfinding services to the attraction, as needed.
  • Actively listen to visitor feedback while ensuring visitor concerns are escalated to the appropriate person or source if unable to resolve directly.
  • Ensure a safe and enjoyable visitor experience by monitoring your zone and reporting any actual or potential hazards and providing excellent customer service.
  • Embody the SLPC’s equity, diversity and inclusion principles while interacting with staff and guests.
  • HOW DO I QUALIFY?

    KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE :

  • Knowledge of customer service techniques to provide a superior customer experience.
  • Understanding of tourism and its economic impact.
  • Experience in crowd control
  • COMMUNICATION, INTERPERSONAL AND TEAMWORKS SKILLS :

  • Strong verbal communication skills to effectively greet visitors, and articulate information clearly and concisely, and the ability to maintain volume when speaking in an outdoor setting.
  • Interpersonal skills to exercise good judgement and tact when communicating with guests.
  • Ability to exercise initiative and work with minimal supervision and in a team environment.
  • Must have an outgoing, friendly personality that demonstrates a commitment to exceeding guest expectations.
  • OTHER SKILLS :

  • Ability to learn all safety protocols and procedures to ensure visitor and staff safety is maintained at all times.
  • Ability to memorize the key event information and health and safety regulations to communicate with all guests.
  • Ability to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
  • Willingness to work a variable work schedule which includes weekends, evenings and holidays, as required.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the position which may include standing for extended periods of time.
